Happy Halloween! I may have more than my share of Halloween decor, but if you haven't noticed I love all of the holidays, especially decorating for each one. And some holiday decor is so special, that I love to feature it in little video clips like the one above here with my Spirits of New Orleans and Ghosthunting North Carolina books. The projector in this video is from Grandin Road.
Thank you to everyone who has been posting such wonderful comments on my Facebook and Instagram pages about my Intuitive Interior Decor posts, I appreciate hearing from you so much!
You've asked for more photos, so here I go, I'll share even more Halloween decor photos here and of course, go look at my Easy Wows Halloween Decor post to see even more.
Let's go, up first, I have to share this darling bracelet. While it's jewelry and not home decor, I love charm bracelets and wear this one through most of October. It's also inspired me to find large ornaments that are similar to these charms, as I'd...
Ever wonder why witch hats are so pointy? There must be a point to it right?
Photo: Spirits of New Orleans book by Kala Ambrose
Once again my dear friends, as your travel guide to the other side and all things mystical, it's time to delve deeper into the meaning of these icons of Halloween.
Back in ancient times and up through the late Middle Ages, women of nobility wore pointed hats. Queens and princesses wore them, aristocratic noble wealthy women wore them. They were symbols of power and prestige. Later in the 19th century, Queen Isabella of Spain brought back the fashion of wearing a very tall hat with the veils and interestingly enough, I write about Queen Isabella in my Spirits of New Orleans book, as she gave magical iron gates to two sisters who lived in New Orleans who were female entrepreneurs running a business.

Hmmm, so here's another reference to magical energy in iron as I...
Ever wonder why cauldrons are featured so prominently during Halloween and associated with witches? Maybe you're 'engaging' in this magical practice and didn't even know that you are!
You may be thinking, what are you talking about Kala? I don't use a cauldron, how am I part of this magical old world practice?
Sure back in the day, meaning way back in the day centuries ago, cast iron cauldrons were the pot used to cook over an open fire.
I mean once upon a time, the cast iron cauldron was the Instant Pot of its day!
But the way we cook has evolved over time and rarely are cauldrons used to cook with, except maybe while camping out as seen in the old western movies with a pot of beans roasting over the fire.
So why are cauldrons still represented today with magic?
The reason is that cauldrons are a symbolic shape and tool. They represent the energy of the Divine Feminine. The shape is round and nurturing and represents that good things come from within, symbolizing...
Greetings Fellow Traveler, it's me again, your travel guide to the other side popping in for a quick chat. What's on my mind today, you ask?
Well, mostly my thoughts are that it's almost Halloween, a time of fun, mystery and magic!
I can't talk about books and spirits and psychic ability and interpreting your dreams and reading auras and intuitive interior decor all the time, can I?
Actually I can and I love to do it, but it's also important to take the time to laugh a little and enjoy the sweet things that life has to offer. So let's explore a little of that shall we...
On that note, this year I went to visit the World of Harry Potter at Universal in Orlando and can I just say - Amazing! I could not LOVE J.K. Rowling's books anymore than I already do and I was a little worried that it wouldn't be able to be portrayed well in a theme park atmosphere, but I was more than pleasantly surprised. It's wonderful, I didn't want to leave, it's so magical I forgot...
Have you ever felt the moon calling for you? I'm serious, like late at night and you feel like something is calling to you... If you have, that's your intuition picking up the energetic signal!
The other night I was quietly working and writing when I felt this pull, like someone calling to me. This is not uncommon in my line of work as those in spirit often want to catch my attention and I feel their connection especially in the evening when the fast pace of the day has faded away into a comfortable evening.
This call felt different, it was more of a charming pull, like magnetic energy attracting my body to it. It was so strong that I had to get up to investigate this feeling. It was a siren song, asking me to come play.
I walked into my bedroom, which has a door that opens up to a private balcony. Above the door is a window, which is a nice feature as it shines light into the room by day while allowing for privacy.
As I enter the room, I see who has been calling to me,...
It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year! Fall is here, give a cheer, oh yes, that's me, I wait all year long for my favorite months, which are October through December.
I'm one of those people who throw a party just to toast to Fall making a grand appearance. While some are belaboring the end of Summer, I'm unpacking my sweaters and getting ready for crisp cool nights, hot chocolate with whipped cream, pumpkin spice everything and the turning of the leaves, oh the leaves.
Maybe it's the Celtic blood running through my veins that loves how the seasons turn. I'm happiest when I live somewhere that has four true seasons. Each season brings its own magic and rituals to connect with the energy and I love and appreciate each one, but Fall, it's my favorite season. We all have favorites and now you know mine.
This time of year I'm out and about traveling and teaching and usually on book tour, doing signings at Barnes and Noble's, like this one and I'm decorating for Halloween....
One of the easiest ways to decorate for Fall, is to gather all of your fall decor together and concentrate it in one area to create a stunning display.
Too often when decorating, people feel the need to spread holiday decor all around the house, making sure everything everywhere gets a bit of Christmas or a bit of well, any holiday. While this does indeed show a sampling of the decor everywhere you look, it might not give the desired effect that you were hoping to create.
Decor items, like collections, are best viewed when grouped together so that the feeling and expression can be experienced and enjoyed. Think of it like a Thanksgiving dinner or buffet. Imagine coming to Thanksgiving and seeing the beautiful table covered with all of your favorite foods, the turkey, the stuffing, cranberries, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, squash, green beans, rolls, the list goes on, but you get the picture right? It's a feast for the eyes and the appetite!
Now imagine instead if you walked into...
