Happy Halloween! I may have more than my share of Halloween decor, but if you haven't noticed I love all of the holidays, especially decorating for each one. And some holiday decor is so special, that I love to feature it in little video clips like the one above here with my Spirits of New Orleans and Ghosthunting North Carolina books. Once again my dear friends, as your travel guide to the other side and all things mystical, it's time to delve deeper into the meaning of these icons of Halloween.
Back in ancient times and up through the late Middle Ages, women of nobility wore pointed hats. Queens and princesses wore them, aristocratic noble wealthy women wore them. They were symbols of power and prestige. Later in the 19th century, Queen Isabella of Spain brought back the fashion of wearing a very tall hat with the veils and interestingly enough, I write about Queen Isabella in my Spirits of New Orleans book, as she gave magical iron gates to two sisters who lived in New Orleans who were female entrepreneurs running a business.

Ever wonder why cauldrons are featured so prominently during Halloween and associated with witches? Maybe you're 'engaging' in this magical practice and didn't even know that you are!
You may be thinking, what are you talking about Kala? I don't use a cauldron, how am I part of this magical old world practice?
Sure back in the day, meaning way back in the day centuries ago, cast iron cauldrons were the pot used to cook over an open fire.
I mean once upon a time, the cast iron cauldron was the Instant Pot of its day!
But the way we cook has evolved over time and rarely are cauldrons used to cook with, except maybe while camping out as seen in the old western movies with a pot of beans roasting over the fire.
So why are cauldrons still represented today with magic?
The reason is that cauldrons are a symbolic shape and tool. They represent the energy of the Divine Feminine. The shape is round and nurturing and represents that good things come from within, symbolizing...
