Coastal Fall in Greens and Blue Hues

Living on the coast, one can't help but to embrace the seaside vibe and this spills into the decor. It can be challenging to create a traditional Fall feel when the evergreen trees and palms sway in the breeze year long.

What's one to do? Embrace the look and make it your own. Blend touches of the season into the coastal decor, creating an authentic look that connects with your natural surroundings.

I've done this several times while living at different locations on the coast.

A couple of years ago I was fascinated with the hand painted pumpkins done by local artists along with the wide variety of pumpkin colors, shapes and sizes, so I create my own pumpkin patch here on my coffee table:

I began with traditional pumpkin colors, exploring the various hues of orange and shapes and sizes. Put some of the smaller ones on pedestals created a sense of drama.

Next I added the coastal hand painted pumpkins I've collected with starfish, octopus and other designs. Touches of silver and gold...

Orange and Black Make the Most of Halloween Decor

The tour continues in my new Coastal Fall style home. Next up, it's time to bring some bursts of orange and black in several space to create that spooky and fun vibe!

I love working with gold and this table in my dining room is the perfect place to add some orange to work with the gold lamp and legs on this side table. Bright pillows, colorful acorns and a whimsical sign set the mood.

Not all decor has to be on a grand scale. I grouped these items (cauldron to hold candy, house rules sign, a bottle to create some love potion and a moody blue pumpkin) to put on a countertop in my kitchen and voila, we're in the Halloween mood!

I'll feature the "how to" in another blog, as I painted this red chest that came with me from the mountains, to this flat black using chalk paint. I changed the handles to new chunky gold ones and it's a completely new piece. It looks great in my office next to my white storage cabinets.  I've added my palmistry hand in the corner and a fun group of...

Halloween at Home - Make the Most of What You Have

This Halloween feels a bit different for many of us as parties and trick or treating are off limits this year due to Covid.  It doesn't mean though that you can't bring the Spirit of Halloween into your home through your décor. In fact, it's probably even more special this year to celebrate with your family and to create this special feeling in each room.

I've been doing just this in my new home, as I've moved from the mountains back to the coast. This year I’m giving Halloween a bit of a Coastal Fall look, using some items I brought with me and introducing some new bits and pieces to represent Halloween and Fall 2020 style. Let's take a quick tour, beginning here with items I brought with me that worked well in a home in the mountains and how they can convert and work in a coastal home.

My fireplace mantel has moved with me from the mountains and now works great in my new kitchen area. It's a wonderful area to decorate for the holidays. In my condo in the...

Happy Halloween!  I may have more than my share of Halloween decor, but if you haven't noticed I love all of the holidays, especially decorating for each one. And some holiday decor is so special, that I love to feature it in little video clips like the one above here with my Spirits of New Orleans and Ghosthunting North Carolina books. The projector in this video is from Grandin Road.

Thank you to everyone who has been posting such wonderful comments on my Facebook and Instagram pages about my Intuitive Interior Decor posts, I appreciate hearing from you so much!

You've asked for more photos, so here I go, I'll share even more Halloween decor photos here and of course, go look at my Easy Wows Halloween Decor post to see even more.

Let's go, up first, I have to share this darling bracelet. While it's jewelry and not home decor, I love charm bracelets and wear this one through most of October. It's also inspired me to find large ornaments that are similar to these charms, as I'd...

Happy Halloween Decor from Kala

books holidays Sep 29, 2020

It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year! Fall is here, give a cheer, oh yes, that's me, I wait all year long for my favorite months, which are October through December.

I'm one of those people who throw a party just to toast to Fall making a grand appearance.  While some are belaboring the end of Summer, I'm unpacking my sweaters and getting ready for crisp cool nights, hot chocolate with whipped cream, pumpkin spice everything and the turning of the leaves, oh the leaves.

Maybe it's the Celtic blood running through my veins that loves how the seasons turn. I'm happiest when I live somewhere that has four true seasons. Each season brings its own magic and rituals to connect with the energy and I love and appreciate each one, but Fall, it's my favorite season. We all have favorites and now you know mine.

This time of year I'm out and about traveling and teaching and usually on book tour, doing signings at Barnes and Noble's, like this one and I'm decorating for Halloween....

A Secret Everyone Should Have in Their Home

intuitive decor Sep 26, 2020

Have you heard about Secret Rooms?

Basically, it's a hidden space in your home that can't easily be detected when walking into a room.  In the grand old mansions of the past, these rooms were designed and built into the homes by the architects. Many were elaborate with hidden hallways built into the walls that allowed the homeowners to move through these areas without being detected in the public rooms of the home. Hidden panels were part of the design, often with the pulls connected to a decorative item on a fireplace or on a specific book on the bookcase in the library that would be pulled out in order to open the doorway and allow access to enter the hidden room or passageway.

I've always loved this design and growing up I would watch the old black and white movies that would show these homes where people would appear out of nowhere or escape down into the secret laboratory tucked away. Whether it's the wardrobe door in Chronicles of Narnia, the platform 9 3/4 in Harry...

Six Magical Properties of Alabaster Lighting

In today's homes, you'll find many lighting sources made from Alabaster. While not all are aware of the metaphysical properties of this stone, it's easy to see how it makes for a gorgeous light source in home and commercial property decor.

Check out this amazing Alabaster chandelier

The metaphysical properties of this stone attract positive energy. You can also ask the stone to help release negative energy away from you and your home.

Alabaster is a good stone to "touch".  It's very soft and smooth and it can "carry" your worries and concerns away, removing them from your aura.

In my Master Bedroom, I have these gorgeous alabaster lamps on each side of the bed. The manufacturer really understood how to work with this stone. The lamp has a second bulb embedded into the stone, lighting it from within.  This detail creates the symbolic master teaching from the ancient wisdom temples of "As Above, So Below", As Within, So Without".

This is an incredible energy to create in...

Hi Richard,

Thank you so much for sharing your kind thoughts about my interview on the Edgar Cayce podcast! I really enjoyed presenting at the Edgar Cayce ARE Conference (Oct 10-13, 2019) entitled: Unearthing the Hidden and Forbidden Histories of the Ancient Past. Hundreds of people attend this conference every year and it was wonderful to meet so many of you!

Easy Fall Decor That Creates the Wow Factor

holidays intuitive decor Sep 21, 2020

One of the easiest ways to decorate for Fall, is to gather all of your fall decor together and concentrate it in one area to create a stunning display.

Too often when decorating, people feel the need to spread holiday decor all around the house, making sure everything everywhere gets a bit of Christmas or a bit of well, any holiday. While this does indeed show a sampling of the decor everywhere you look, it might not give the desired effect that you were hoping to create.

Decor items, like collections, are best viewed when grouped together so that the feeling and expression can be experienced and enjoyed. Think of it like a Thanksgiving dinner or buffet. Imagine coming to Thanksgiving and seeing the beautiful table covered with all of your favorite foods, the turkey, the stuffing, cranberries, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, squash, green beans, rolls, the list goes on, but you get the picture right? It's a feast for the eyes and the appetite!

Now imagine instead if you walked into...
