Abend-Tee & the Guardian of the Evening

ask kala tea Jan 08, 2026

Today’s cup brought a different kind of enliglhtenment.

After the lively duo that was Lemon & Ginger yesterday, today’s blend whispered to me with a much gentler voice. This morning’s tea was Abend-Tee, an organic herbal spice blend in a cool pyramid shape from Creano.

“Abend” means evening in German, and while I drank it in the morning, the energy was unmistakably a sunset — the soft exhale after a long day, the glow after the heat, the quiet gathering of oneself.

This tea welcomed me into its space, like stepping into a lamplit room after being outdoors in winter and hearing a soft voice say, “You’re home now.”

It took me a moment to connect with this tea as it wasn't as strong as the others I had tried. Then I realized what was different, it wasn't the tea, it was the new mug that I was using.

I decided yesterday to enhance my journey, by trying tea in different types of mugs and cups. Up until today, I had been using the same cup each day. I purchased some new cups to try...

Lemon & Ginger — The Alchemy of Partnership

This morning’s tea felt like opening a tiny magical doorway, since it came from my Harry Potter Advent Calendar, gifted to me at Christmas and hiding ninety-six enchanting little teas behind its doors.

Today, behind Door 22, was a bright and spirited blend: Lemon & Ginger with lemon, ginger, lemongrass, and fennel from New English Teas in Coventry:

A classic name, but the energy? This one is a duo with personality.

From the first breath of steam, I could feel the shift. This tea doesn’t gently introduce itself—it enters the room. Lemon opens the windows. Ginger flips on the lights. Lemongrass sweeps out whatever doesn’t belong and Fennel brings everyone together with a soft, sweet assurance that everything little thing will be alright.

I must tell you the thought that occurred to me as I sipped...

If Lemon and Ginger were two women who ran a business together, they would be the most dynamic pair in the entire botanical kingdom.

Lemon is the bright one—crisp, sunny, optimist...

Mango, Bergamot & the Taste of Sunshine

ask kala tea Jan 06, 2026

Today’s tea felt like a little celebration with the element of surprise.

After the deep earthiness of Tippy Assam yesterday, this morning called for something brighter—something with a little sparkle, a little whimsy, a little “I’m on Day Six and I’m really doing this!” So I selected Mango & Bergamot Green Tea from Whittard, a blend that I will now describe as

... tastes like a sunbeam with very good manners.

From the first inhale, this tea opened the door to a different mood entirely—fruity, floral, bright, and quietly joyful. Mango and bergamot create a duet that shouldn’t work as well as it does, yet somehow they meet in the perfect place between playfulness and elegance.

Mango brings sweetness, warmth, and creative life-force—the energy of summer afternoons, golden light, joy, and ease. Metaphysically, mango resonates with the sacral chakra, supporting emotional flow, creativity, sensuality, and lighthearted pleasure. Physically, mango supports digestion, vitality, and anti...

Tippy Assam & the Wisdom of Depth Progress

Today’s tea arrived carrying a story.

Not just a flavor, but a lineage—one that traveled across oceans and time before landing gently in my cup. Today I chose Tippy Assam from Whittard, a black tea brought back from England by a dear friend. And somehow, that alone made the experience feel layered with meaning—tea as messenger, tea as bridge, tea as shared memory.

Tippy Assam comes from the Assam region of India, known for its rich soil, humid climate, and powerful monsoon rains. This is a land that produces teas with depth, body, and character—teas that do not rush to introduce themselves. Assam tea is bold yet nuanced, strong yet refined. The “tips” refer to the golden young leaf buds harvested at just the right moment, adding natural sweetness and complexity to the brew.

From the first sip, this tea feels anchoring. If I were to describe it like a fine wine, I might say malty, full-bodied, slightly honeyed, with a grounding richness that settles into the body rather than skat...

Peppermint & the Spark of Life

Day Four arrived with a different request from my body and spirit.

Not rest.
Not softness.
But movement.

So today’s cup was Peppermint from Twinings—fresh, crisp, unapologetically alive. This is not a tea that whispers you into stillness. Peppermint wakes you up, shakes the energy loose, and says, Let’s circulate. Let’s breathe. Let’s go.

From the very first sip, peppermint announces itself through sensation. Cool on the tongue. Bright in the breath. Expansive in the chest. It feels like opening windows inside the body—suddenly there is more space, more airflow, more clarity.

There is something especially powerful about peppermint in January. In the heart of winter—when the air is cold, the days are quiet, and the body naturally slows—peppermint feels like a spark of green life beneath the snow. It doesn’t fight the season; it enlivens it. While winter asks us to rest and reflect, peppermint ensures we don’t stagnate. It keeps energy circulating, spirits lifted, and awareness sha...

Tea, Time, and the Elegance of Presence

Today’s tea carried me not just into stillness—but through time.

For today’s cup, I chose the Downton Estate Blend by The Republic of Tea—an Earl Grey infused with bergamot orange oil and a soft whisper of vanilla. From the very first inhale, this tea announces itself not as a beverage, but as an experience. One breath and you are no longer simply in your kitchen—you are standing at the threshold of another era.

The aroma alone is transportive. Bright citrus from the bergamot lifts the mind immediately, awakening clarity and refinement, while the vanilla weaves in a gentle warmth—comforting, elegant, and familiar. Together, they create a sensory bridge between alertness and ease, much like the rhythm of life in the Edwardian and early 20th-century world this tea evokes.

Historically, tea was not a hurried habit—it was ceremony, structure, and social ritual. In the world of Downton Abbey, tea marked transitions in the day. It was a pause between duties. A moment of civility, refl...

Chai & the Art of Beginning

Today, the journey officially begins.

This morning, I welcomed the first cup of my 365-day tea ritual with something both grounding and invigorating—chai. It felt like the perfect companion for day one. Not too gentle, not too forceful. Warming. Awakening. Anchoring. A tea that says, “We’re here. Let’s begin.”

Chai is more than a flavor—it’s a conversation between spices, an alchemy of elements that mirrors the way we move through life. Black tea for focus and clarity. Cinnamon for circulation and warmth. Cardamom to open the heart and lift the mood. Ginger to awaken the body and stir creative fire. Clove to ground and protect. Each ingredient carries its own intelligence, its own medicine, and together they create something far greater than the sum of their parts. The tea this morning is from Twinings of London.

As I sat with my cup this morning, steam rising like a soft prayer, I became aware of how perfectly chai embodies the energy of beginning. It’s energizing without being...

365 Days of Tea and Presence

ask kala Dec 31, 2025

As we step into the threshold of a new year, I find myself not craving more doing, but more being.

So I’ve made a quiet promise to myself for 2026—one that feels simple, almost humble, yet deeply transformative.

For the next 365 days, I will begin each morning with a cup of tea.

Not rushed.
Not distracted.
Not multitasking my way through the moment.

But Present. Awake. Listening.

And what feels especially magical is how this intention began to weave itself into reality before I ever spoke it out loud.

Nearly two months ago, the idea arrived gently—this knowing that the coming year would be shaped by a daily ritual of tea, presence, and mindful devotion. I didn’t announce it. I didn’t plan it aloud. I simply held the frequency of it in my heart.

And then something beautiful began to happen. One by one, people in my life—completely independent of one another—began gifting me tea. Eight different people. Different blends. Different intentions. None of them aware of what the others ...

How to Navigate the 2026 Fire Horse Year

ask kala astrology Dec 30, 2025

🔥 Welcome to the Fire Horse Year!

2026 is a Year of

Momentum, Courage & Soul-Led Movement

We are crossing a powerful threshold—not just into a new calendar year, but into the Year of the Fire Horse in Chinese astrology this February. This energy arrives like a spark to dry kindling.

The Fire Horse is bold, fast-moving, visionary, and fiercely independent.
It does not wait for permission.
It does not linger in indecision.
It carries the frequency of breakthrough, liberation, and destiny in motion.

This is a year that only happens once every 60 years!

It will ask...

  • Where have you been holding back?

  • Where are you ready to run toward your truth?

  • What part of you is ready to rise and move?

Fire Horse years ignite courage, accelerate timelines, and reward authenticity. They can feel intense—but they are profoundly catalytic when you align consciously with the energy.

Here's my report on how this Fire Horse current will move through each Western Sun sign...

December's Stardust and Light

December has arrived as a sacred threshold — a time when the light of the Sun pauses, breathes, and begins its return to the world.

This is the Winter Solstice, the longest night of the year and the moment when darkness gives birth to light.

In the stillness of this cosmic turning point, we are invited to remember something profound — you are encoded in stardust and light.

Every atom of your being carries the radiant signature of creation itself. The same particles that illuminate the stars flow within your cells, whispering the truth that you are not separate from the cosmos… you are the cosmos, embodied.

Long before you took your first breath, your soul designed a sacred pattern — a Divine Blueprint, a map woven from frequency, geometry, and intention.

This blueprint is your soul’s architecture — guiding your destiny, your lessons, and your luminous potential.

Throughout the year, you have been evolving toward greater alignment with this design.

December, with its crystallin...
