It’s interesting when I use the term, Divine Feminine in conversation. Some women look at me and tilt their head as if they are hearing this term for the very first time and are unaware of its meaning, while other women smirk and ask if I’m a feminist and am promoting this outrageous thought.
Patiently, each time this question is asked, I methodically attempt to define what the term Divine Feminine means and how it is equally as important as the Divine Masculine and that the goal is to balance both the masculine and feminine polarities within each of us, as well as throughout the world.
The direction is not one or the other, and certainly not one over the other, but rather equality and harmony. I share the history of when the Divine Feminine was in balance and how it affected societies and what this could mean for our future. Sadly, by the time I reach this point in the conversation, most people have shrugged their shoulders and changed the conversation to ask what reality shows that I am currently watching, LOL! I sometimes continue the conversation to say that I’m into the Ultimate Reality Show, which I have titled: Wake Up to Your Life, but the conversation often doesn’t flow much further from there. 🙂
Recently though I came across the book, High Altitude Woman: From Extreme Sports to Indigenous Cultures Discovering the Power of the Feminine, which explores the deeper intricacies of feminine energy. Author Jan Reynolds shares her journey as a world class record breaking skier and climber and her expeditions to Everest, the Alps, the Amazon and the Sahara.
Often the only woman in these expeditions filled with men, Reynolds learned over time that rather than attempting to assimilate out of her comfort zone to be like one of the guys, that instead, she flourished and found her greatest success when she embraced her feminine side. Her adventure continues as she meets with various indigenous groups and explores how they work successfully in balance of both their masculine and feminine sides.
She brings these points home and explores how embracing the feminine nature can enhance relationships, careers and global interactions. Perhaps the Divine Feminine, now being activated in new incarnations, will bring about greater understanding of feminine energy and how both males and females can embrace and balance both energies living inside each person.
