When the Muse Gets Her Way with Naomi Lowinksy

On this episode of the Explore Your Spirit with Kala Show, Kala speaks with author Naomi Lowinsky, author The Sister from Below: When the Muse Gets Her Way. Who is this Sister from Below? She’s certainly not about the ordinary business of life: work, shopping, making dinner. She speaks from other realms. If you’ll allow, She’ll whisper in your ear, lead your thoughts astray, fill you with strange yearnings, get you hot and bothered, send you off on some wild goose chase of a daydream, eat up hours of your time. She’s a siren, a seductress, a shape-shifter . . . Why listen to such a troublemaker? Because She is essential to the creative process: She holds the keys to the doors of our imaginations and deeper life—the evolution of Soul. The Sister emerges out of reverie, dream, a fleeting memory, a difficult emotion—she is the moment of inspiration—the muse. Naomi Ruth Lowinsky writes of nine manifestations in which the muse visits her, stirring up creative ferment, filling her with ghosts, mysteries, erotic teachings, the old religion—bringing forth her voice as a poet. Among these forms of the muse are the “Sister from Below,” the inner poet who has spoken for the soul since language began. The muse also appears as the ghost of a grandmother Naomi never met, who died in the Shoah—a grandmother with ‘unfinished business.’ She visits in the form of Old Mother India, whose culture Naomi visited as a young woman. She cracks open her Western mind, flooding her with many gods and goddesses. She appears as Sappho, the great lyric poet of the ancient world, who engages her in a lovely midlife fantasy. She comes as “Die Ür Naomi,” an old woman from the biblical story for which Naomi was named, who insists on telling Her version of the Book of Ruth. And in the end, surprisingly, the muse appears in the form of a man, a long dead poet whom Naomi loved in her youth. The Sister speaks to all those who want to cultivate an unlived promise—those on a spiritual path, those interested in a Jungian approach to life, those who are filled with the urgency of poems that have to be written, paintings that must be painted, journeys that yearn to be taken.

Fundamentalisman with Duann Kier

On this episode of the Explore Your Spirit with Kala Show, Kala speaks with Duann Kier about her book, Fundamentalisman: Resurrecting the Fundamentals of Relationship from the Fundamentalism of Religion. In the book, Duann asks the following questions: If you are a Christian fundamentalist and your beliefs are working for you because you know beyond a shadow of a doubt that they are right and real, this book is probably not for you. If you are a Christian fundamentalist and are beginning to question some of the beliefs you’ve been taught along the way, this book may be for you. If you are—or once were—a Christian fundamentalist and your beliefs just aren’t working for you anymore, this book is definitely for you.

She then asks these soul-searching questions:
• Would you be a Christian if there were no heaven or hell?
• Is the fear of hell the main reason you are a Christian?
• Do you sometimes wonder whether you are really saved from hell?
• Do you really have the peace that passes all understanding?
• Do you find no matter how hard you try, you just can’t seem to be the person that you want to be?
• Do you truly feel loved and cherished by your creator?

These are not comfortable questions to ask oneself, and you may have already put the book down by now. But if you haven’t done that yet, I encourage you to stay with me to its end…

God Outside the Box with Patricia Panahi

Kala speaks with Patricia Panahi about her book, God Outside the Box – A Story of Breaking Free. Born of a Catholic mother and Moslem father, Patti is never sure what religion to follow, or any at all for that matter. In her youth and early twenties, she explores numerous religions, but none speak to her soul. She can’t accept the idea that one group has the whole truth and everyone else is wrong, or confused, or infidels, or a cult, or going to burn in hell for all time. To limit her thinking for religious purposes is like living in a cubicle and not being allowed to look over the wall and see what is going on outside. She wants to think for herself, to study, to analyze and to practice without inhibitions. Why would God only accept the practices and prayers of one particular group and not others? An omniscient God can’t be that petty, can he-or she? She finally concludes that she just doesn’t know and flounders in a spiritual void for a time. But when she is diagnosed with a serious illness and haunted by inner demons of her past, she cracks and falls apart. Deep, buried emotions erupt to the surface, shaking her to her core. Propelled to seek answers and find inner peace, she cries out to the heavens for help. Consequently, she tumbles into a spiritual adventure that explodes her concepts of reality and opens her to a brave new world where souls talk, trees emit energy fields, rocks have life, and God is everywhere.

More About Patricia Panahi:
Along with inspiring people to find a God of their understanding Patti is an inspiration and role model to anyone who feels they have a story to share. Patti states, “Writing this book took me back to the doubts, fears, breakthroughs and many miracles and extraordinary experiences I’ve had over the years. It showed me how far I’ve come and how much I’ve changed. It gave me the courage to continue on my spiritual path and know that by following my inner guidance, I can accomplish anything. I have also learned that my primary reason for being here is to communicate, to teach and to share. While previously I taught ESL to international students, now my teaching and sharing is being transformed to help people who are in the process of spiritual awakening. ” Over the course of her 34-year career, Patricia Panahi has been a teacher, business owner, workshop coordinator, program director and, of course, writer. Patricia Panahi holds a BA in English and an MA in Linguistics from San Diego State University. She spent twenty years teaching English to international students in Iran, California, and Hawaii. She also directed ESL programs for Hawaii Community College and the University of Hawaii at Hilo. She lives on the Big Island of Hawaii with her husband and one mischievous feline.

Awakening to God-Consciousness with Rev. Wendy Craig-Purcell

Kala speaks with Rev. Wendy Craig-Purcell, Founding Minister and CEO of the Unity Center in San Diego. Rev. Wendy with the Unity School of Christianity and the Association of Unity Churches is presenting a six-part webcast series entitled Jesus and the Awakening to God-Consciousness on www.unity.fm that explores this controversial yet expansive view of Jesus and his teachings in conversations with Deepak Chopra. Each segment will be available free of charge. A recent Pew Forum found 68 percent of adult Americans believe there’s more than one true way to interpret the teachings of their religion. “If they knew there was a path like Unity’s,” speculates Craig-Purcell, “vast numbers would be surprised and delighted. The Unity movement, founded in 1889 by Charles and Myrtle Fillmore in their Kansas City living rom, has taught and practiced an expansive, inclusive, and universal understanding of Jesus’ teachings for nearly 120 years. According to Paula Coppel, vice president of Communications at Unity School of Christianity in Unity Village, MO, “It was the enlightened state that Jesus was both demonstrating and teaching. This Web series contends that Jesus was not trying to start a new religion, nor was he aiming his teachings at some people and not others. He was pointing the way for all of us to experience the awakening that he himself had experienced.” This is an important and liberating perspective. “We’re not trying to change anyone’s mind or beliefs. We’re just offering an alternative view,” says Coppel. “We understand that this material is controversial and will probably upset some viewers,” says Craig-Purcell. “But Jesus, after all, was controversial himself and radical in his time, so we are in good company.” We urge you to let your audience know about this groundbreaking media event.

The Ark, The Shroud and Mary with Philip Gardiner

Why do the Ark of the Covenant, Mary’s reliquary box, and Jesus’ Coffer all have the same imagery? Was the Ark the container of the Covenant, the Ten Commandments, or the Chalice? Does the image of the Shroud of Turin contain a bioelectric field? These questions and others will be explored in The Ark, The Shroud, and Mary. In this unique and thought-provoking work Gardiner proves that the Ark of the Covenant, the Shroud of Turin, and Mary are united in ways never before imagined. Traveling across the world, from Rome to India, Portugal to Egypt, Gardiner uncovers the trail of the Ark and finds that it does not lead to Ethiopia, as many believe, but instead in a direction that nobody could have imagined. The trail of the Ark takes Gardiner on a hunt into the very heart of an ancient secret society with clandestine meetings in far off lands. Uniting the myth, tradition, and language of the Ark with the Shroud of Turin, Gardiner then goes on to re-date it, reveal how it was made, and identify whose image it actually recreates. Through his new-found contacts in the world of secret societies, Gardiner then shows how this incredible secret was protected by a dual brotherhood throughout time and was the secret source of the enlightenment spoken of by numerous orders from the Sufis to the Knights Templar.
