Jesus In India with Paul Davids

Kala speaks with Paul Davids, producer of the film, Jesus in India. Just released is the DVD of the most controversial film ever to play on Sundance Channel, “Jesus in India,” provoking one critic to declare, “This is a feature documentary sure to make Bill O’Reilly choke on his eggnog.” Chosen as a TV Highlight by the New York Times and Los Angeles Times, the film is praised by renowned critic Pete Hammond as “fascinating and profound, a deeply spiritual journey certain to make you think and question in ways you never have before.” Yogananda’s Self-Realization Fellowship is calling it a groundbreaking film, while Atlantis Rising magazine says: “This film….has the potential to revolutionize Christianity by virtue of the humanization of Jesus.”

“Jesus in India” explores the mystery of Jesus’ whereabouts between the ages of 12 and 30, a period known as the “Hidden Years” or “Lost Years.” The New Testament offers only one vague sentence relating to those 18 missing years. Leading the film’s investigation across 4,000 miles of India and beyond was Edward T. Martin, author of two books on the subject: Jesus in India: King of Wisdom — The Making of the Film and New Findings on Jesus’ Lost Years and King of Travelers: Jesus’ Lost Years in India.

Paul Davids is a film producer, writer and director whose career began as the production coordinator (and a writer) of the original TRANSFORMERS TV show. He then co-wrote six STAR WARS sequel novels in the early 1990′s and then served as co-writer and executive producer of the Showtime original feature ROSWELL, starring Martin Sheen, Kyle MacLachlan and Dwight Yoakam, nominated for a Golden Globe as Best TV Motion Picture of 1994. He followed that controversial film film with a number of independently produced controversial features from his company Yellow Hat Productions, Inc., including TIMOTHY LEARY’S DEAD, STARRY NIGHT, THE ARTIST & THE SHAMAN, THE SCI-FI BOYS (winner of both a Saturn Award for Best DVD and the Rondo Award for Best Independent Genre Film) and now JESUS IN INDIA. Kala speaks with Margaret Starbird about her book, 14 Steps to Awaken the Sacred Feminine. The 14 steps workbook and guide invites you to form small groups or “circles” to explore your own spiritual journey using Mary Magdalene’s “story” as a template for your own experience and spiritual “journey.” Joan Norton is a Jungian therapist, and author of the book Mary Magdalene Within and has been facilitating a “Magdalene Circle” for several years in Los Angeles. Based on this experience of women sharing in a small group, she and Margaret Starbird have collaborated to create this workbook to encourage formation of women’s circles.

Margaret Starbird holds BA and MA degrees from the University of Maryland and did graduate study Christian Albrechts Universität in Kiel, Germany, and at Vanderbilt Divinity School in Nashville, TN. A “cradle” Roman Catholic, Starbird taught Scripture classes for adults and CCD for many years and currently presents lectures and retreats centered on the Sacred Feminine in Christianity. She has been interviewed for numerous TV documentaries both in the USA and in Britain and is the author of several widely acclaimed books about the Sacred Feminine in Christian tradition: The Woman with the Alabaster Jar (1993), and The Goddess in the Gospels: Reclaiming the Sacred Feminine (1998), both cited by Dan Brown as significant sources in his best-selling thriller The Da Vinci Code. Her newest book, Mary Magdalene, Bride in Exile, was published in 2005. Her other titles include Magdalene’s Lost Legacy and The Feminine Face of Christianity, both published in 2003, and a forthcoming book co-authored with a Jungian therapist, Joan Norton: 14 Steps to Awaken the Sacred Feminine.
