Transformational Tips for Spring

The Spring Equinox, also known as the first day of Spring, arrives on the official date of March 20th 2011 at 7:21pm EDT.  That’s not a moment too soon for me, as it’s been a long cold winter and I’m ready for a change in the weather. From a spiritual perspective, the Spring Equinox marks a seasonal cycle of rebirth, where the seeds planted in the Fall, (a quiet period of self-introspection and reflection), blossom into creative and colorful displays.

As Mother Nature works her magic, there are tremendous boosts of natural energy presented to us during the Spring and Fall Equinox and the Summer and Winter Solstices. The energy lasts for three days: the day before, equinox or solstice day, and the day after. When we understand this transformational energy, which bursts forth in Spring, we can use this energy as a motivator in order to create great change in our lives.

There is an old teaching I share with my students which says: “We can not fully understand what we have not experienced”. In order to transform, we must first consider what we have learned through our past experience. This allows us to turn this information into wisdom and enhance who we are and who we wish to become.

Through our life experiences, we develop the wisdom to answer such questions and learn and grow from each experience in our lives. By doing this, we honor the people and experiences who have impacted us in our life. In honoring these things, we make them sacred and of great personal value. It is with this knowledge, that we can change our future. This occurs by first focusing our attention on what we truly desire to manifest. Then we must then actively create the right atmosphere and attitude to bring the desire to fruition.

Then during the Spring Equinox, we can create a new beginning. We are given the opportunity, just as we see in nature, to bloom and begin again. This is one example of the greatest gifts we were given here on earth, which is the abundant, creative and transforming energy found in nature.

Ancient schools once taught how to observe the powerful events occurring in nature to connect with the energy here on earth. We still have this ability to connect with nature in order to assist with our growth and development and cultivate balance and growth. I’m happy to present here a series of transforming activities for the three-day period of the Equinox.

The Equinox ritual consists of two parts, the outward celebration and the inner rebirth.

Day One of the Equinox

It’s time for Spring Cleaning. Clean your house and remove clutter. As you clean each room and the items in it, do so with reverence and appreciation for the abundance in your life. Cover your home in loving energy as you clean, picturing you and your loved ones in each room, feeling happy, content, joyful and relaxed. By this evening, you are ready to smudge each room with white sage to purify and cleanse each room.

On The Eve of the Equinox

Reflect upon the thoughts and goals you had during the Fall Equinox and for the New Year. Consider the lessons and experiences of the past six months and decide what is hindering progress with your goals.

Ask yourself — What important seeds of truth need to be revealed this spring, in order for me to truly know myself so that I may blossom into my power-filled being?

It’s time to awaken from your period of hibernation, inactivity and self-introspection and put these thoughts and plans into action!

To awaken to your higher self and activate your growth cycle, begin the Equinox ritual by taking a shower. As the water flows over your body, imagine all negative thoughts leaving your mind, being washed away from you. As you dry off, say out loud,All That Happens, Happens for Good – Divine Spring Energy is working through me now”!

Day Two of the Equinox

This day is what people refer to as “Equinox Day”, It is the day to Celebrate Rebirth, Renewal and Abundance. It is a time to toast to plans of action and growth, as you are becoming “a garden in bloom”!

Celebrate with rituals including creating and sharing Spring Equinox gift baskets with loved ones and friends. The day culminates with dinner to celebrate renewal, rebirth and the magic of the seasons and life and all the wonder it brings, along with sharing dreams being brought into fruition this year. This is a powerful day to put plans into action.

In ancient times, Spring Equinox was celebrated with an outward and inward celebration:

  • Outwardly – people celebrated with egg hunts, (a symbol of the earth and rebirth), by giving and decorating with bunnies, (a universal symbol of fertility for both body – act of creation with birth and mind – turning thoughts into fruition) and by giving baskets, (a symbol of abundance). A special dinner with family and friends is also common to celebrate the return of Spring and renewal.
  • Inwardly – people took action on the seeds (goals) that they planted during the Fall Equinox. Spring presented the time and divine opportunity to step forward and create oneself anew with the tools of Gratitude, Abundance and Creativity.

Day Three of the Equinox

Celebrate the renewal of Spring and the Divine Feminine energy which is present everywhere in nature at this season. This is the time to emerge from Introspection and Self Observation, into Spring Renewal and Focus on Action, Creation and Celebration.

Here are some suggestions to activate your creative side and bring new perspective and balance into your life.

Plant flowers in the garden,

Take on a new creative project (preferably something new you have not done before)

Decorate your home in bright new colors

Have Gratitude for the ABUNDANCE of OPPORTUNITY in your life

Accept new challenges in order to grow and step closer to your goals

Embrace the future by spending time with people in your life who will encourage your dreams and aspirations.

The Spring Equinox is a great time to jump start your goals, but this ritual can be done anytime in Spring for wonderful and positive results. It has never made real sense with our current Julian calendar, that one would create New Year resolutions in the dead of winter on January 1st. Your dreams were planted as seeds of thought in the Fall and now is time to tend to your garden and bring forth beautiful blooms of creativity. You haven’t failed at your New Year Resolutions, You’ve Only Just Begun!

Decide what actions you will take immediately and proceed from there. May the journey into the transformative sacred garden of Spring grow in delight with each step!

The Transformational Power of the Spring Equinox

Spring Equinox also known as the first day of Spring, has an official date of Saturday, March 20th 2010 at 1:32pm Eastern Time. The Spring Equinox marks a seasonal cycle of rebirth, where the knowledge cultivated from the Fall Equinox (a focused period of self-introspection and reflection) blossoms into creative action.

There are tremendous transformational powers available during the equinox and solstices during these three day periods (the day before, equinox or solstice day and the day after). When we understand the transmutational properties available during these cycles, we can create great change in our lives. In order to know what we must transform, we must understand the past experiences reflected upon during the Fall Equinox, which then allows us to regenerate this information into wisdom and enhance who we are.

We can not fully understand what we have not experienced. Through the action of applied knowledge and experience, we develop the inner wisdom to answer such questions. By doing this, we honor the people and experiences who impacted us on our path, and in honoring these things, we make them sacred and of great personal value. Thus, on Spring Equinox, these carefully planted seeds from the Fall, can now bloom into new life for each us, and we can begin again.

It is with this knowledge, that we can change our future. This is created by refocusing our attention on what we truly want to manifest and then actively creating the right atmosphere and attitude to bring it to fruition. Spring reminds us of our ability to be reborn and this is one example of the greatest gifts we were given here on earth, which is the abundant, creative and transforming energy found in nature.

We can connect with nature to assist with our growth and development. Ancient schools taught how to observe the powerful events occuring in nature to connect with the energy here on earth (below) with the energy from the higher planes (above). This act brings forth the balance and growth of the As Above So Below teachings. These teachings included a series of rituals designed to assist students in connecting with each powerful and sacred festival of the year. Some of these rituals have been adjusted for modern life, (such as in ancient times, there were pools where students went to purify in the water each evening, rather than showering as we do today).

Presented here are activities you can do on each of three days of the Equinox, to release the energy within you, connect with the energy of the Equinox and transform your life. The Equinox ritual consists of two parts, the outward celebration and the inner rebirth.

The Eve of the Equinox:

Reflect upon the seeds (thoughts and goals) you planted during the Fall Equinox and New Year. Consider the lessons and experiences of the past six months and decide what is hindering progress with your goals.

It’s time to awaken from your period of hibernation, inactivity and self-introspection and put these thoughts and plans into action!

To awaken your higher self and activate your growth cycle, begin the Equinox ritual by taking a shower. As the water flows over your body, imagine all negative energy being removed and washed away from you. As you dry off, visualize white light around your body and say out loud, “All That Happens, Happens for Good – Divine Order is working through me now”!

Day One of the Equinox:

It’s time for Spring Cleaning. Clean your house and remove clutter. As you clean each room and the items in it, do so with reverence and appreciation for the abundance in your life. Cover your home in loving energy as you clean, picturing you and your loved ones in each room, feeling happy, content, joyful and relaxed. By this evening, you are ready to smudge each room with white sage to purify and cleanse each room. End the day with the shower and ritual from the equinox eve. Ostara and the magic of Spring

‘If I had my life to live over, I would start barefoot earlier in the spring and stay that way later in the fall. I would go to more dances. I would ride more merry-go-rounds. I would pick more daisies’. – Nadine Stair

Spring, the mere mention of the word tingles my senses, reminding me of hope, renewal and a chance to begin everything in life anew. On a deeper level, I seem to remember past lives as a fair celtic maiden, playing chase and hide and seek in the woods with friends, and delighting in the discovery of a meadow of flowers, plucking a handful of them to make herbal concoctions and a potion or two for safekeeping.

Times have changed and I currently live in an overly domesticated suburban world, with only small patches and parks to remind me of my natural roots. Yet, at the first hint of Spring, my shoes go off and I have to sink my toes deep into the green grass, slowly stirring both of us back to life.

Last evening, while I was out doing just this very thing, along with a bit of stargazing, I was greeted by the sweetest little bunny in my yard. Ahhh, truly the spirit of Spring is here, right on time and as I stood in the quiet of my backyard, I felt a stirring from deep within me, heralding the return of my creativity, fertility and sense of adventure. Above me the stars of my ancestors surrounded me with their love, reminding me that I never walk alone and here next to me, in this beautiful bunny, stood the goddess Ostara inviting me to embrace the divine feminine and take a walk on the wild side. Never one to turn down an invitation, I opened mind, heart, body and soul and joined in on nature’s dance for a few hours, reveling in the silver light of the moon…

The next morning in the light of day, I began putting things in order around the home, but found myself becoming easily distracted.  There is spring cleaning to do in preparation for the coming equinox, but for today, as I listen to my inner self, the girl in me just wants to play, to revel in the joy of Spring, and the promise it holds. Today, I dream of fields of fragrant wildflowers, running barefoot with friends and lovers and dwell on promises to come of love, joy and warm sunny days…

As I enjoyed the warm breeze blowing through my open windows, I reflected on the ritual known as ‘spring break’, and how the word break means to end one thing and begin something new. Breakfast for example, means to ‘break the fast’, from being asleep and not eating, to awkening and eating, thus breaking the fast. In the same way, we follow a similar ritual with spring break, as we stir from the deep slumber of winter and emerge from hibernation and the cave. We in this sense, like our ancestors, are breaking from the cold bonds of winter and entering a new cycle. This is why rituals were created, to mark the passage of time and the movement from one season to another or to memorialize a special event or ceremony.

For many of us, attending a festival or parade provides a powerful kickstart to get the energy going again in the Spring, and perhaps that is why St. Patrick’s Day and the ‘wearing of the green’, is enjoyed by so many Americans in March. As a child who grew up in Louisiana, I have so many wonderful memories of festivals that my family and I attended. One of my deepest loves for the people of Louisiana, is their joy for life, the ability to celebrate something good about every day, and from the Pecan Festival to Jazz Fest, Mardi Gras and hundreds more, there is always an opportunity to gather with friends and family and celebrate life.

A powerful festival memory for me comes from my tween days, when our class took a field trip to a Renaissance Faire. I delighted in the costumes and fanfare, knights jousting, maidens in beautiful gowns, and a regal looking queen walking amongst her subjects. I was with my girlfriends and we came across a booth where a woman sold love potions, that smelled sweet, heady and exotic. The potions were herbs packed in a tiny burlap sack which came with a silver locket that hung around the neck. You took a small amount of the herbs from the sack, held them in your hand, wished for love and then placed the herbs in the locket and hung around your neck.

Taking this information very seriously, all three of us girls purchased the herbs and lockets and set about bringing magic to our lives. Feeling bold with our love potions now in place, with silver lockets clasped around our necks, we set out to explore the rest of the faire. We noticed a crowd gathering by some bleachers and saw that a show was about to begin. Crowding in together, we sat down and a moment later, some of our classmates joined us, including a gorgeous blond haired boy named Wayne. Climbing up the bleachers, he sat down next to me.

As the show began, his hand inched closer to me until his fingers were touching mine and we stayed in that position for the fifteen minutes of the show. Raising our hands to clap for the knights and their jousting, we stood up and as the crowd dispersed, Wayne touched my arm and asked me to wait, that he had something to tell me. With my heart beating a mile a minute, I turned to him and shyly looked into his eyes to see what he wanted to say. His hand was still on my arm and I can remember that moment like it was yesterday, the warmth of the sun peeking through the trees, birds singing, and the laughter and joy of the festival in the background.

He looked at me and said, ‘I wanted to tell you’  – and then he leaned in and gave me my first kiss. It was sweet, soft, promising and yielding, I was on fire and the herbal scent from the locket intermingled with his scent and nothing else existed in the world but the two of us and this kiss. As our lips drew apart, I sat down slowly on the bleachers, Wayne beside me, holding my hand. As we gazed into each other’s eyes, he told me that he had a crush on me and it was only on this trip that he felt brave enough to tell me. Oh Spring, Oh Ostara, Oh mighty silver locket, the joy you brought to me this day with the power of Spring, when as they say.. ‘a young boy’s fancy turns to love’.

Now all these years later, Spring still holds the promise of surprise, love and magic to me and I am still fond of the Renaissance Faires and the celebration they bring..

With Spring upon us beloved readers, I turn to you and say, ‘It’s time for you to have an adventure of your own, it’s time to Get Thee to a Renaissance Faire this Spring’. There are wonderful faires and festivals in many states, one I highly recommend is the North Carolina Renaissance Faire. Enjoy a beautiful day outdoors complete with music, gallant knights, fair damsels, haughty queens, rogue pirates and perhaps an adventure of your own waiting to unfold. The NC Ren Faire runs from April 10th – April 25th and following this event is the King Henry VIII Ren Faire from May 8th through May 16th. I’m such a fan of the NC Ren Faire, that Explore Your Spirit is a sponsor of the event, as it’s hosted by the NC Historical Society, a non profit organization which brings education and enrichment to the state.

So this Spring, explore, embrace the eternal promise of youth and create a little magic of your own. I see good things coming for us all, as we enter into a new renaissance period, as I’ve been quoted as predicting..

‘In this new decade, we are moving into a new ‘Age of Enlightenment’. The aquarian information from the gods can no longer be contained, the divine feminine is being released in all her glory and we will once again see a renaissance period, where great art, architecture, philosophy, literature and science will develop and flourish. During this decade the greatest minds will stir, to share, to illuminate and to build and create works and ideas that will be marveled around the world’.

And to all the youth out there, enjoy your Spring and your first kiss, this spark is part of a sacred ritual that has been celebrated throughout time immemorial.

Spring Forward into Action with this Equinox Ritual

kala_ambrose1Spring Equinox is a three-day cycle of celebration, where we take the wisdom gained from the Fall Equinox (focus period of self-introspection and reflection) and turn this knowledge into creative action. The process of understanding the meaning of our past experiences allows what we’ve learned to regenerate into wisdom, which is reborn within us and enhances who we are. By doing this, we honor the people and experiences who impacted us on our path, and in honoring these things, we make them sacred and of great personal value.

We can not fully understand what we have not experienced. Thus, the journey of life is one of answering the questions, Who Am I and Why Am I Here.  Through the action of applied knowledge and experience, we develop the inner wisdom to answer such questions.

What is most important to reflect upon during this time is that in life, events happen, choices are made, and actions are generated. We cannot change that which has passed, but we can be renewed through the wisdom of these experiences. Life can present us with great tragedy and joy.  During these times, we can bloom with wisdom and insight, which lead us to find new directions, explore new lessons learned and regenerate into further growth.

On Spring Equinox, these carefully planted seeds from the Fall, can now bloom into new life for each us, and we can begin again.

stellamarislogobackIt is with this knowledge, that we can change our future. This is created by refocusing our attention on what we truly want to manifest and then actively creating the right atmosphere and attitude to bring it to fruition. butterflyPresented here are activities you can do on each of three days of the Equinox, to release the energy within you as well as connect with the energy of the Equinox….

The Eve of the Equinox:

Reflect upon the seeds (thoughts and goals) you planted during the Fall Equinox and New Year. Consider the lessons and experiences of the past six months and decide what is hindering progress with your goals.

Ask yourself — What important seeds of truth need to be revealed this spring, in order for me to truly know myself and step into my power-ful being?

It’s time to awaken from your period of hibernation, inactivity and self-introspection and put these thoughts and plans into action!

To awaken your higher self and activate your growth cycle, begin the Equinox ritual by taking a shower. Esoterically -  people act on the seeds (goals) that they planted during the Fall Equinox. Now is the time and opportunity to step forward and create oneself anew with the tools of Gratitude, Abundance and Creativity.

Day Three of the Equinox:

May is around the corner, which brings the celebration of the Divine Feminine. This is the time to emerge from Introspection and Self Observation, into Spring Renewal and Focus on Action, Creation and Celebration. The Equinox is a time to focus on a balance of exoteric and esoteric, and introverted and extroverted events.
