Southeast Women’s Herbal Conference this October in Asheville, NC

Welcome to Kala’s Quick Five, where I chat with fascinating authors, artists, teachers and researchers and ask them five questions about their work. My guest today is Lee Warren, Program Coordinator of the SouthEast Women’s Herbal Conference, which will be held on October 1-3, 2010 at Lake Eden, in Black Mountain, North Carolina.

Kala: Lee, welcome to Kala’s Quick Five. The SouthEast Women’s Herbal Conference is described as ‘… a weekend for women to learn, connect and deepen into the Wise Woman Tradition: earth-based healing, local plants and deep nourishment’. Can you describe for us what goes on during this weekend at the conference and how long the conference has been running?

Lee: The conference is in its 6th year and has grown to more than 600 women participants. There are more than 60 classes by over 30 teachers in 8 different tracks of classes throughout the weekend plus evening events, amazing meals based on nourishing traditional foods, and artful vendors. Classes range from beginner to advanced and cover topics such as herb walks, storytelling, classic kitchen remedies, the art of drumming, seasonal living, self-esteem, wholistic sexuality, and more.

The conference offers an opportunity for women to steep themselves in teachings on the wise woman tradition, which encourage them to take charge of their health and their lives. As you mentioned, The Wise Woman Tradition embraces earth-based healing, local plants, and deep nourishment.

As Susun Weed puts it: “The Wise Woman Tradition is the oldest tradition of healing known on our planet, yet one that is rarely identified, rarely written or talked about. A woman-centered tradition of self love, respectful of the earth and all her creatures, the Wise Woman Tradition tells us that compassion, simple ritual, and common herbs heal the whole person and maintain health/wholeness/holiness.” The Wise Woman Tradition values nourishment, flexibility, transformation, groundedness, and the cycles of life, death, and rebirth.

The Southeast Women’s Herbal Conference was inspired by the thriving herbal conferences for women in the Northeast, Southwest, and California. Corinna Wood, Director of Red Moon Herbs, felt that the Southeast, too, was ready for this kind of gathering. From our first annual event in 2005, we quickly discovered that the community was ready and eager, that we were filling a need. The conference now has a heart and soul of its own. For many it has become an annual event, a tradition in education, inspiration, and sisterhood. Our herbal conference community grows stronger and reaches further each year.

Kala: I love the Asheville and Blue Ridge mountain area of North Carolina and visit as often as I can to bask in the energy of the land and the warm feelings of the mountains. I’ve lived in other mountainous regions in my life, but the Blue Ridge is my favorite in the US. They’re the oldest mountain range in the country and have a softness that I connect to the Divine Feminine energy. When planning the conference, Lake Eden in this area was chosen, what do you enjoy energetically about this area and how does it support the conference?

Lee: Yes, it’s a beautiful area and Lake Eden is a gem for sure. The choice of Lake Eden as a location for our conference site was in large part due to our desire to expand the conference to a facility that could hold our capacity (our previous site had a maximum of 400 women.) Further the coming together of the Lake and the Mountains offers a beauty typical of this area and conducive to basking in the beauty and scenic nourishment ideal for a weekend away. Thus women who travel get to experience being in the beautiful Western NC terrain. As we’ve already talked about, earth-based awareness is part of our focus for the weekend and having women be immersed in such amazing earth energies helps embody that value.
Additionally, there are four of us who co-create the planning of the annual Southeast Women’s Herbal Conference: Corinna, Ema, Lee, and Renee. We all live in a forested valley in the Broad River District, about 30 minutes from Lake Eden. We are friends and neighbors sharing values of simple, low-earth-impact living, and environmental and social activism. Our offices are off-the-grid and our lives are filled with child rearing, food growing, and community. The conference gives women the opportunity for a part-time living-wage income in a rural area without much opportunity for employment and allows us work that is deeply aligned with our values.

Kala: During the conference, over 35 teachers present over 60 classes throughout the weekend. How does this work, is there one fee for the entire conference and you choose which classes to attend or do you pay by individual class? What do the classes focus on?
Lee: The fee for the weekend is $270 with food and lodging as an additional fee. Participants can purchase a meal ticket of local, organic, lovingly prepared meals for $58 and choose to camp or stay in various lodge or cabin beds at Lake Eden. Once registered, participants can choose from any class in seven class tracks, named: Weeds & Walks, Herbal How-To, Health & Healing, Advanced, Tending our Spirits, Love Your Body, Love the Earth. There is one additional class track called Intensives, which come with an additional cost and take up two class slots. Intensives are an opportunity to study more deeply with a certain teacher or on a specific subject.

Intensives this year include:

  • The Best of Rosemary – Greatest Hits from 35 years of Herbal Wisdom with Rosemary Gladstar
  • Mountain Mama’s Apothecary — Do-it-Yourself, Down Home Concoctions with Teresa Boardwine
  • The Endocrine System — Exploring the Body/Mind Mystery with Kathleen Maier
  • Women Rise Up Ceremony with ALisa Starkweather
  • Women’s Anatomy of Arousal — Secret Maps to Buried Pleasure with Sheri Winston

For a full schedule, please see:

Kala: When looking at the courses offered, I noticed that some of them are geared towards nurses and medical care givers. I think that’s very encouraging to the see the medical community connecting with the wise woman ways and incorporating this work into their care. What do you see occurring at this time with the medical community, are they opening to embrace holistic healthcare as part of their service?
Lee: Not only are holistically minded nurses and caregivers seeking out this information for personal interest, it seems that more and more hospitals and other health care facilities want their staff to be trained in these modalities. They’re finding that their patients are regularly asking about supplements, food, lifestyle, and the like, and they are starting to step up and realize the value of engaging around these ideas.

The Wise Woman Tradition translates and integrates well into all forms of care because it is inclusive. It encourages us to look at nourishment and supportive strategies first before resorting to pharmaceuticals or surgery, but it doesn’t rule those options out as valid and legitimate forms of healthcare.

For the first four years of the conference, we had nurses and other health professionals attending who were interested in incorporating the Wise Woman Tradition into their lifes and work. We received repeated requests for making continuing education units available for nurses at the conference.

With the support of the New England Women’s Herbal Conference, we connected with the American Holistic Nurses Association. The AHNA is very much in resonance with our holistic approach to self-care and health care. The process to be approved to offer CE’s for nurses is an extensive one. Three months of effort resulted in a 71-page application in 2009 which was approved by the AHNA. Last year, 25 nurses took advantage of the program.

We’re applying to AHNA again this year and hope to attract twice as many nurses.

Kala: What is the intent and vision of the Southeast Women’s Herbal Conference? Where do you hope to see it blossom in the future?

Lee: Southeast Wise Women, which is the umbrella organization for the The Southeast Women’s Herbal Conference is, simply put, holding a voice in the Southeast for the Wise Woman Tradition.

In specific, hundreds of women get charged and changed through their experiences at the conference and look forward to returning to get renewed each year. We’re hoping that this charge infuses their lives with the inspiration and initiative to create more self-care, well-being, empowerment, and aliveness in themselves, their families and their communities.

We want women to learn, connect and deepen during the weekend and take home a seed-pod of hope for what is possible in their lives.

Here are some testimonials from past participants…
• “I had never been to an all-woman event before and it was amazing how free and un-self conscious I felt! I also especially loved waking up early in my tent and walking to the gym for Sierra\’s lovely, restorative yoga sessions, and eating the truly wonderful food provided. Thank you!”  SK Valentine, Tallahassee, FL

• “This year my mother and my daughter attended the conference with me. They loved it as much as I did in previous years. It was such a bonding and connecting experience. Thank you for offering something for everyone, and a huge thank you to the childcare staff. My daughter cried when it was time to leave this special space you create.” Crystal Merrell, Jasper, GA

• “I was particularly grateful for the harmonious vibration and cooperation. Every year we surrender a little more of our egos in service to the greater good. It is a very powerful experience to be with so many grateful women supporting other women so that we may carry our medicine back out into the world as the healers that we are.”  Thea Summer Deer, Whittier, NC

We love hearing from women who go back to their lives and create women’s circles, or study their passion, or begin making herbal infusions as medicines at home, or start a new business based on healing, or even just incorporate more nourishing foods into their lives. In any way that we can help create movement back to a connection with the earth, ourselves and each other as women, we are helping to create healing…..personally and planetarily.

If we can come together as empowered, healthy, and alive women, there’s no stopping what is possible.

Kala: Lee, thank you for joining me here on Kala’s Quick Five. More about Lee and the Southeast Women’s Herbal Conference on their website: www.sewisewomen.com

Sharing in the Spirit of Cinco de Mayo

Inside each of us at some point in our life, we begin to question our identity. This speculation and musing stems from the desire to establish a connection with something greater while aspiring to answer the age old question that sages, philosophers, fools and scholars have pondered since ancient times. The question that mystifies, delights and frustrates all who attempt to answer it is, Who Am I?

For most of us, the starting point in answering this question, is to first look at our roots and where we come from. The passage of time allows us to reflect upon our history. The holidays and festivals established in our culture create memories with friends and family which are integral to defining who we are and what we revere. Each new generation pulls from these experiences and moves forward taking what we hope, is the best of our heritage to provide a foundation from them to derive comfort and a sense of belonging in the world.

Each country has their unique cultural heritage, formed over hundreds of years of experiences collectively and individually. For the mass majority of people in the U.S., our ancestors arrived here as strangers in a strange land and keeping a bit of their identity and cultural customs helped ease the homesickness on holidays and kept happy memories alive. The U.S. is described as the ‘great melting pot’, rich with a vast mix of cultures enhancing the vibrancy and variety of the country, some of which I just celebrated while returning recently to visit my home state of Louisiana to spend some time in the great city of New Orleans.

As a nation, the U.S. may have one of the most unique cultures, due to the fact that the culture focuses on hopes and dreams for the future, based on the belief that with hard work, perseverence and a bit of luck, one can accomplish anything they desire. As Americans, we are by large, self-made people. For most of us, our ancestors came to this country with little in their pockets, full of hopes and dreams to create a new life. The results have ranged from spectacular to catastrophic, but most would willingly choose one day of freedom in their newly adopted country than to live where they were previously. Self-made people by nature are gutsy, they have that spirit and drive to follow their dreams and using their talents and wits, they succeed. They also have pride in who they are and remember what their parents taught them about respect for those who paved the way before them.

People in the U.S. identify themselves as Americans, but a great majority also love to connect with where their ancestors came from before moving to the United States. Ask any Brit here on vacation, that as soon as an American hears their british accent, they immediately have to ask what part of England they are from and then explain that their great great great great grandfather came from England. This almost always is both amusing and perplexing to the Englishman, who would never think of asking an American in London a similar question. Though back in the 80′s, I did have a conversation with a British woman over the phone, who when finding out that I was living in Texas, wanted to know if I personally knew J.R. and the rest of the Ewing family from the tv show Dallas.

Here in the U.S., we share our pride of our cultural heritage the American way – by throwing a block party and everyone’s invited. I’d like to go on record in saying that this custom may be one of the most important cultural influences of our history. From Mardi Gras, to St. Patrick’s Day, Chinese New Year, Oktoberfest and Cinco De Mayo, Americans love to celebrate and participate in these events around the country, regardless of their own ethnicity. With carnival beads around my neck on top of my Kiss Me, I’m Irish tee-shirt, to eating moon cakes and dressing on occasion like a St. Pauli Girl, I’m as guilty as the rest of them.

Opinions on these celebrations are as diverse as the people in our country. Some feel it cheapens the historical significance of events, by diminishing them to the level of food, alcohol and party favors. Many decry the fact that Americans by large are ignorant of history. I’m not so sure that’s the case, I’ve encountered people all around this country, who have wonderful stories of history, of their home towns, their states, their city blocks, and their farms. History is relative and varies in importance in conjunction to the situation of each individual.

What most Americans understand is the importance of ‘living in the now’. Our ancestors taught us this lesson, they did not focus on what they had left behind or how things used to be, they just rolled up their sleeves and got busy creating their new life. This may be one of the greatest legacies that they have taught us and when we follow our dreams, we honor them and our heritage, both from the past and present.

As a history buff, I’ve spent a great deal of my life studying comparative religions, cultures, philosophies and ancient rites and rituals. I do this because I enjoy it and it’s a personal passion. I also understand that one does not need to know the entire history of a culture in order to participate in a festival. If we really desire to delve into historical significance, let’s begin with the fact that Cinco de Mayo is not a federal holiday in Mexico. It is not celebrated nationally in Mexico and has nothing to do as many think, with Mexico’s Independence Day, which is on September 16th. Cinco de Mayo acknowledges the victory of the Mexican army over the French in a battle in Puebla. Surprised?

So why celebrate Cinco de Mayo? The real question may be, Why not? Commemorations like Cinco de Mayo, St. Patrick’s Day, and Octoberfest present the opportunity for Americans to share their cultural pride, heritage and customs with others. These celebrations have inspired school districts across the country to connect these events with lessons plans in geography, history, dance, art and music. In some cities, museums exhibitions and events are connected to the festivities, along with parades and city wide events. And, yes, in many bars and restaurants across the country, people will gather to drink a Guinness on March 17th, a Beck’s in October and a Corona on May 5th. They will raise their glasses in a toast, some in memory of their ancestors, others with pride of their heritage and many who are living in the now, in recognition that we are all one, a band of brothers and sisters called humanity. Here collectively on earth, as we seek to understand who we are, there are days when we still feel like strangers in a strange land. Life passes quickly and for many Americans working hard every day, taking the time to pause and break bread, or corned beef and hash, brats and sauerkraut or chicken enchiladas, with a few friends is a time honored tradition. As an optimist, I see the possibility of greater cultural respect and integration with each generation who shares and participates in these events.

So join me in shaking your maracas and margaritas on Cinco de Mayo. Dance with joy, share some enchiladas with a friend and since we can’t all get to Cabo, Cancun or Cozumel today, live in the now and make it your fiesta getaway for a day. Personally, I’m all for more celebrations and suggest that we root next for Bastille Day, July 14th, right after we make Mardi Gras a national holiday!

What the 2010 Color Trends Say About Our Mood

SPRING FASHION COLOR TRENDS – What the 2010 Color Trends Say About Our Mood
(Use color to transform your personal style and well-being)

Pantone, the leading authority on color, sets the professional color standards for the design industries each year. According to their Fashion Color Report for Spring 2010, the top color this spring is Turquoise. Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of Pantone had this comment on the spring colors -  “Now more than ever, women are vigilant when it comes to spending. Instead of reinventing their wardrobe at the start of each season, consumers want pieces to complement what they already own. Pairing a bold color with a basic piece or freshening up their look with bright accents addresses the need for practicality, as well as fun”.

Two leading color and aura experts, Elizabeth Harper and Kala Ambrose are traveling around the US this year, to discuss the power and presence of color in your life and how it affects you on the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels. Teaching together at the prestigious Omega Institute in New York in July 2010, one of their first stops of the spring season begins right here in Raleigh, NC as they hold a 3 Day Event on March 4th, 5th, and 6th, hosted by Spiritual Frontiers Fellowship.  The event includes a lecture on Thursday evening, private color readings on Friday and an all day workshop on Saturday discussing Color and Auras, which are the colors seen by intuitive people in a field around the physical body.

Kala and Elizabeth teach that… “Color is the mirror of the soul. Every day waves of color-filled energy wash over us and the colors we choose at any given moment reflect messages from the deep knowing part of our being. The choices of color can be used not only in fashion, but in the food we eat, our creative pursuits, home decoration and work environment to enhance our well-being. Color permeates everything in our lives and can generate significant emotions; pink invokes love, green creates space, and violet inspires reverence. As hue-man beings we possess an awareness of color, but much of this knowledge is buried beneath the surface of our waking consciousness”.

According to Kala Ambrose, “Turquoise, the top color selected for 2010, represents self-expression and has to do with communication and healing.  Turquoise worn in clothing can stimulate the imagination and bring forth creative ideas and the turquoise stone, worn as jewelry can bring transformation.  The choice of turquoise this year signifies the mood of the people around the country who are ready to have their voices heard and want to bring about change in a big way. Turquoise reflects prosperity and collectively the color represents the desire by the people to heal from what has occurred nationally in the past few years and builds motivational energy to turn things around in the economy”.

E = Explore Easy Reading with E-Books!

kala_ambroseHave you noticed how quickly time is moving as we shift into the new age of consciousness? It seems like we were just celebrating the New Year and here we are days away from August… We set goals of wanting to take more time for ourselves this year and to read more about subjects that inspire, educate and sometimes just entertain us.  Yet it’s hard to carry around a stack of books to read in the few moments we have to ourselves… on a quick lunch break, waiting in the carpool to pick up the children, on the train to work or if we’re really lucky, a few heavenly moments curled up in a chair reading a wonderful story….

While nothing will replace a paper book for me, I love it all, the smell, the paper, the feel of it in my hands, I also realize that in this age of communication, there are times when the purpose of technology is to create time saving shortcuts to help us in all that we do each day.  One  example of these tech evolutions is the Kindle, which allows books to be read in an electronic format. The 9lessonskindleKindle is compact, portable and holds over 200 books in its database. It’s the perfect gift for someone who travels often and can’t take a bag of books with them,  the busy executive who can read on the way into work on the train, moms and dads waiting to pick up children from an activity and for those techies, who we all know, who love playing with new technology, just because it’s new!  I don’t think Kindle will be the demise of books, too many people love books in their paper format, but Kindle will find its place in this world. One option that I see in the future, will be for high school and college students, who lug around so many heavy books from class to class, putting a strain on their backs and shoulders. Kindle would allow for all of their textbooks to be downloaded into the reader and the students will be able to search for certain paragraphs of information and mark these areas for study later.  The costly replacement due to the wear and tear on the books along with the children’s health, would be worth it alone!

I’m proud to say that my book 9 Life Altering Lessons: Secrets of the Mystery Schools Unveiled is now available on Amazon for Kindle. If you have a Kindle and you’ve read my book in this format, I’d love to hear from you about how you found the experience.  Drop in and share your thoughts with me on our new Explore Your Spirit Community where we discuss this book and others.

All the best to you on your journey,

Mary Magdalene – The Greatest Story Never Told

margaret_starbirdIn the wake of Dan Brown’s bestseller, some people insisted that it was pure fiction, while others asked, “What remains when the fiction is stripped away from The Da Vinci Code.” What remains, I believe, is the belief of the earliest Christians that Jesus embodied the Sacred Bridegroom from the ancient mythologies and that Mary Magdalene was his spouse. This belief appears at the core of the Gospels and was later embellished by authors of the Gnostic texts discovered in Egypt, texts that unabashedly proclaim Mary Magdalene as beloved disciple and intimate companion, even “consort,” of Jesus.

My personal conviction that Jesus was married and that he and his wife modeled the hieros gamos (literally, “sacred marriage”) as the “archetypal divine couple” rests on the Passion narrative in the canonical Gospels, beginning with the anointing of Jesus by a woman, an event followed by his torture, death, and resurrection. This powerful sequence closely paralleled in numerous ancient mythologies and liturgies of pagan “bridegroom gods” similarly sacrificed and resurrected at the vernal equinox.

aljar23As Jesus was reclining at the banquet table in the town of Bethany, a woman carrying an alabaster jar of precious ointment approached him. She broke the jar open and anointed Jesus with its contents, precious unguent of nard. Then, as her tears fell on his feet, she dried them with her hair. This passionate story was so poignant that it survived for a generation in oral tradition and is one of only four stories included in all four canonical Gospels.

What was it about the story of this anointing by a woman that was so powerful, so unforgettable? Jesus himself proclaimed that wherever this story was told, it would be told “in memory of her.” And yet, most people do not even remember her name!

Over the years, the unnamed woman became identified with Mary Magdalene and was branded a prostitute, a slander derived from the association of the anointing with pagan rites of the sacred King. Later legends tell of the journey of the “Bride in Exile,” another familiar archetype from ancient mythologies and Micah 4: 8-10. Mary Magdalene brings the Holy Grail to the shores of Gaul, arriving in about 42 A.D. with her friends and family in a boat with no oars, fleeing persecution in Judea. With them is a pre-adolescent child, between the ages of nine and twelve whose name Sarah means “Princess” in Hebrew, yet legend declares that she is a servant. Was she, like Cinderella, really a princess from a faraway land? This legend lies at the core of the bloodline heresy that cannot be proven with facts, but echoes poignantly throughout medieval European folklore and art—the myth that a royal child descended from Jesus and Mary Magdalene survived. The “lost princess” belongs in the realm of mythology, a story too dangerous to be told as fact, but one that contrives to confirm the marriage of the “Christ-couple” at the heart of the Christian mythology.

The “sacred union,” tragically lost in the cradle of Christianity, was to have been our birthright in the Western world.  In reclaiming this union of the “Archetypal Bride and Bridegroom,” we bring waters of Spirit and Truth to heal the wasteland.  Margaret Starbird Copyright 2005  All rights reserved

If You’re in Financial Crisis (or Any Crisis), It’s Time To Surrender

julia_rogers_hamrickWith the world’s economy on such shaky ground as the old structures crumble to make way for the new, there are millions of people who consider themselves in dire financial straits. They are facing such potentially core-shaking events as home foreclosures, job losses, and bankruptcy. Many are experiencing utter desperation because they just don’t know what to do.

If that’s you—or if you’re in any situation that has you feeling in dire straits—I invite you to do the most powerful thing possible: surrender. Give everything over to your Spirit to sort out. Turn it over to the wise, powerful aspect of you to handle, and be willing to listen for and act on your Spirit’s guidance in taking any practical steps that need to be taken.

I invite you to use this experience as your proving ground for your beliefs—to put your spirituality to the test—so that you can demonstrate the very truths you’ve adopted and have made your intention to live by. And what better time is there to do that than when your back is to the wall? Up against the wall is a power place when you decide it is. When you’re up against the wall, the most powerful response is to say to your Spirit, “I surrender this to you.”

Only One Thing is Standing In The Way of The Abundant Life You Were Designed to Live

Your very design as a human being calls for you to thrive, live in harmony, and be abundantly blessed. But there is an important part of this that many have missed. This harmony and abundance depends on you listening to your Spirit’s voice above all other voices, and following its guidance faithfully. That is how the Creator set things up for humanity to live a life of joy, ease, and harmony.

But you cannot expect the level of abundant blessing you were designed to enjoy when you allow the loud, panicked voice of the Fearful Self to drown out the calm, sure, wise voice of your Spirit. And heaven knows, this whole economic scenario is riling up our fearful aspects and causing them to scream bloody murder! Financial trouble strikes right at the major hot buttons of your Fearful Self, also known as your ego.

The threat of losing one’s home, of not having enough food, of not being able to provide abundantly for one’s family, of feeling like a failure, and so on—these all hit ego right where it lives (no pun intended). Because ego’s agenda lines right up with the agenda of your primitive brain, known in the Triune Brain Model as the reptilian brain, that part of you that is concerned with your physical survival, it is particularly stressed at anything to do with threats to survival or status. And when ego’s buttons are pushed, it is loud and insistent on getting your attention.

But you can’t let the threatened ego take over and drown out the voice of your Spirit. You need to do whatever it takes to soothe the poor, terrified thing into quietude so that Spirit’s voice can be heard in response. The key to doing this is to raise your vibration, because the higher you go, the fainter ego’s voice is, and the clearer Spirit’s voice.

The Fearful Self Must Be Allowed Its Say, or There Will Be No Peace

The thing is, though, ego is not going to let this happen without first being heard. Ironically, in order to quiet its voice, you will first need to let it express itself. Your helpless little-child ego-self is going to need to wail it out and your teenaged ego-self is going to need to yell about how unfair it all is. Every level of ego will need to discharge its anger and express its fear. That is not dwelling on the negative; it is managing your vibration by managing your feelings. Trying to go higher without clearing out all this emotional energy is futile. Stuffing your fear and trying to paste a smiley face on it in the name of being positive is just not going to work.

You may recognize this emotional release as being Step 3 from the Step-By-Step Frequency Raising System. Whenever you feel the fear and emotional energy building up, have a #3 and clear it out on purpose. That is how you clear the way to the empowering guidance of your omniscient Spirit.

After releasing the fearful emotions, use some of the many tools listed in the Step-By-Step system to transcend your fearful ego and go higher in vibration, and, thus, closer to your Spirit. Uplifting music, aromatherapy, physical exercise, appreciating nature—or a combination of these or others—will help you move higher and higher. As long as it feels pleasurable to you—as long as you’re feeling better and better—you know what you are doing is uplifting you.

Surrender Again, and Again, and Again

If you find yourself worrying or trying to think your way through the problem, it’s time to surrender again. Your Spirit, always in alignment with the Design for Harmony, knows exactly what to do to bring you to your highest level of well-being, no matter the circumstances or the problems you may have created by allowing ego to lead. When you are aligned with your Spirit, it will tell you the practical steps you need to take in the process of sorting out a problem or moving to a more peaceful situation. Your Spirit is also a dispenser of miracles if you’re sufficiently surrendered and available to receive them.

The solutions your Spirit has for you won’t require engineering by your left brain—your left brain will only be needed to carry out the instructions Spirit gives you. Your left brain won’t be able to come up with the ideas to solve the problems—it would have already done so if it were able. Spirit will provide the ideas and solutions, but you have to be tuned in to receive its messages.

When you worry, plot, plan, and control, you are on the wrong wavelength to receive the perfect guidance of your Spirit. When worry sets in, just turn it around by saying, “I trust you Spirit. I surrender this to you.” How often do you need to surrender? How ever many times it takes. Your frightened ego will try to convince you that relying on your Spirit is impractical, but that’s only because it can’t see high enough to grasp what your Spirit is able to do that it can’t.

Keep affirming your trust in your Spirit. Praise your Spirit for its brilliance and power (this is not for your Spirit’s sake, but for your own!). And to really keep yourself in the zone, go ahead and thank your Spirit with all the enthusiasm of someone who has just been told that all her problems have been solved, because that is the very outcome that is being created when you trust your Spirit and follow its guidance to the abundant life you were designed to live.

More about Julia Rogers Hamrick…..

book-edenJulia Rogers Hamrick, visionary author and teacher, has been a spiritual-growth facilitator since 1982 when she underwent a radical spiritual awakening, including an occurrence of spontaneous cosmic consciousness, as a result of surrendering her life to Spirit in response to a health crisis. With this experience as the foundation, her teaching focuses on deliberately creating new realities through managing our vibrational state, with an emphasis on the relationship between vibrational frequency and our experience of life. Most recently, in a whisper from the Divine, Julia was gifted with the remembrance of the parallel reality called Easy World, “where everything is easy.” Upon sharing this extremely simple concept, it began spreading like wildfire as people at all points of spiritual evolution have clicked with the words, “I live in Easy World, where everything is easy,” have found their lives transforming with utmost ease, and have shared Easy World with others. Her new book Choosing Easy World is due to be released soon.  More info at: www.juliarogershamrick.com or  www.iliveineasyworld.com

Conscious Living and Dying

kala_ambrose2On tonight’s show, my guest is Annamaria Hemingway and we’re discussing her book, Practicing Conscious Living and Dying: Stories of the Eternal Continuum of Consciousness.

hemingway-book1Annamaria’s book shares real life stories, showing death as an integral part of life, with personal accounts of near-death experiences and after-death communication.  Over the years, I’ve spoken with many people who have had near death experiences. I’ve also communicated with people in spirit from the other planes. In the courses that I offer as a teacher of esoteric teachings, one semester of study is dedicated to what is often referred to as the Death Series, where students learn how the soul prepares to leave this plane over a period of time. When one does not fear this process, it allows one to open up to the journey with more awareness and consciousness.

Birth, Death, Rebirth, it’s the Cycle of Life. Join us here in the interview as AnnaMaria and I discuss Conscious Living and Dying.  http://www.exploreyourspirit.com/Media/shows3.shtml#HEMINGWAY

Explore Past Life at the Ren Faire

kala_ambroseAt The North Carolina Renaissance Faire, you can step back 400 years into time and history! This full scale, interactive theater experience is like no other. The Faire offers you a chance to visit the days of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth I! At this 16th Century Faire, you’ll find over 110 artisans hawking their wares, you’ll enjoy musicians, jugglers, and the ribaldry of actors in many distinct staging areas. You’ll see brave and bold knights competing for the favor of the Her Majesty’s Court (and for their lady’s affection) during any one of three full-contact jousts held in the Queen’s Tiltyard.

The theme of this Year’s Faire is….

ad-renfaire2009Queen Elizabeth and her Royal Court have been invited by the Earl of Bedford to come and visit with him at his estate in Kingston-Upon-Hull, a major shipping port about ten days journey north of London. Good Queen Bess has accepted his invitation and the town is all abuzz with the exciting news of her imminent arrival. Lord Mayor Charles Babington has requested that the Towne Cryer, Master Harold, gather the citizens into the Towne Square for some important announcements. Just as his honour, Lord Mayor Babington, finishes checking with each of the towne merchants to verify that all preparations are in order for the Queen’s arrival, the gathering is interrupted by Count Bernadino Mendoza, the Spanish ambassador, who asks to address the crowd. It seems, he announces, that a courier, sent by King Philip with an important dispatch for the Queen, is missing. The Count offers a generous reward for anyone who locates the diplomatic pouch containing the dispatch, generating much excitement amongst the crowd.

Suddenly, Captain Richard Langstrom of the Mermaid’s Revenge pushes his way through the crowd, dragging a drunk and disheveled Spaniard behind him. “Is this the scurvy dog you be looking for?” he asks roughly. Indeed, it is the missing courier but, alas, he has misplaced the diplomatic pouch and too much ale has dulled his memory. The search for the missing pouch is on, with Count Mendoza leading the charge and enlisting the aid of the Sheriff and his Deputy and the good citizens of Kingston-Upon-Hull in the hunt.

Where is the missing pouch? What important message for Queen Elizabeth is contained within? And… what is the story behind the mysterious ship, the Mermaid’s Revenge, and its questionable crew? Come to the North Carolina Renaissance Faire and find the answer these questions and more. The fun and excitement of Elizabethan England is right around the corner.

Relive the old days and visit the NC Ren Faire this April 4th and 5th! For more information, visit: http://ncrenfaire.com
