The mere mention of spring reminds me of a chance to begin everything in life anew. On a deeper level, I remember past lives as a Celtic maiden, playing hide and seek in the woods with friends, and delighting in the discovery of a meadow of flowers, plucking a handful of them to make herbal concoctions and a potion or two for safekeeping.

Times have changed and I like most of us, live in an overly domesticated suburban world, with only small patches and parks to remind me of my natural roots. Yet, at the first hint of spring, my shoes go flying off and I have to sink my toes deep into the green grass, to connect my auric fields back into the earth.

One evening, while I was out doing just this very thing, along with a bit of stargazing, I was greeted by the sweetest little bunny in my yard. As I stood there in the quiet of my backyard, I felt a stirring from deep within me, heralding the return of my creativity, fertility and sense of adventure. Above me the stars of my ancestors surrounded me with their love, reminding me that I never walk alone and here next to me, represented here in the form of this beautiful bunny, stood the goddess Ostara, inviting me to embrace the divine feminine and take a walk on the wild side. Never one to turn down an invitation, I opened mind, heart, body and soul and joined in on nature’s dance for a few hours, reveling in the silver light of the moon.

The next morning, I reflected on the ritual known as ‘spring break’, and how the word break means to end one thing and begin something new. Breakfast for example, means to ‘break the fast’, from being asleep and not eating, to awakening and eating, thus “breaking the fast”. In the same way, we follow a similar ritual with spring break, as we stir from the deep slumber of winter and emerge from hibernation and the cave of the home. We in this sense, like our ancestors, are breaking from the cold bonds of winter and entering a new cycle. This is why rituals were created, to mark the passage of time and the movement from one season to another or to memorialize a special event or ceremony.

Spring is the most powerful time of the year to raise the vibration of all of the auric fields. The Spring Equinox is the most optimum time of the year to raise the energy in the fields and chakras and open the heart chakra. The heart chakra and astral field open when the lower bodies are clear and the energy is ready to rise. Like the flowers of spring, all good things bloom in time.  Spring represents joy, hope, adventure and love. It is a time to play. We are emerging from the restorative period of winter and are full of energy to express. If you have planted the seeds of thought and affirmation in the fall, you will now be prompted from within on how best to take action at this time. Enjoy, for all of nature is with you at this time, bursting with color and vibrant energy. The world is a virtual feast of energy and your auric fields will soak it up every day. Throw open the windows, go on long walks, surround yourself with fresh flowers and best of all, go play.

Let Nature Be Your Guide…
The elements of nature provide tremendous resources to assist in healing and restoring energy to the auric fields. The uplifting sights, vibrational sounds and revitalizing scents of nature’s finest, renew the mind, body and spirit on multiple levels. In addition, the seasonal cycles connect us to the energetic earth based transformations.When we understand how to connect with nature, we can draw upon this energy to enhance our auric bodies. When we focus our energy in conjunction with elements, we can create forces of powerful healing energy. These forces are the most powerful during special seasonal cycles on the earth and when we harness this energy and draw it into our fields, the energy magnifies three-fold. The cycles represent the stages of life each person goes through in the physical; the spring of our youth, the summer peak of our adult years, the reaping of wisdom in our golden years of autumn, and our introspective return to spirit world in winter.

Each area of the world has its own unique energy and auric field. Mountainous areas give off one type of energy, which varies significantly from the energy of the beaches. As I travel, I can’t help but notice the aura of each area. Some areas radiate with the color so intensely that it fills the sky. One example that has always stayed with me was that I used to notice landscapes and seascapes painted by artists who portrayed an overwhelming shade of pink throughout the canvas. These seascapes were always connected with Florida and I never really understood why the artist would choose to use so much pink in their painting of a blue ocean and beige sand. I surmised that they must have been trying to capture the glow of a sunset at that brief moment when the sky turns pink. Years later, while moving to Florida I experienced what they were seeing. When driving into the state, there’s a certain demarcation line where the auric field in the land and sky connect and turn pink! I was so overcome by the beauty of it and realized why so many people are drawn to live in Florida for the healing heart energy they receive while there. It truly is a wonderful place to heal and enhance the heart chakra area. Though I no longer live in Florida, I drive there often. When I do, I can now almost calculate to the exact mile where the energy changes and the pink glow begins. It is as thrilling to me each time I see the pink hue, as it was the very first time.

Another extremely powerful area with a strong auric energy is the Hawaiian Islands. There are parts of Hawaii where the energy is so pure that you soak up the auric field through all of your five senses and even the sixth. Hawaii exudes the energy of “creative fire” and when you visit the islands, your creative energy will rise. It is rare to meet anyone who has spent time there, who has not found that they return energetically uplifted and inspired. Their auric field is recharged and full of light and vitality and is ready to create and manifest something new and exciting from the time they spent in the islands. If you are looking to make a change in your life and want to connect with your creativity and reignite that spark, a visit to Hawaii should be on your list of things to do.

Few things excite my energy fields more than a good breeze when it picks up and I feel the wind swirling around me. A gentle breeze brings much more than cooling relief to the body, it stimulates the energy fields and removes residual energy. A strong breeze, such as during a storm, electrifies this energy and after blowing away stagnant energy, it stimulates the vibration of the fields. This is why many people become excited during a storm, it stirs something deep within and calls them into action.

When you are in need of removing residual energy from your auric fields and want a quick recharge, going somewhere with strong breezes will do the trick. A mountain area with strong breezes will work as well as on an island which receives the Trade Winds. Traveling on a cruise ship also connects you with the ocean breeze. During the cruise, stand at the front of the ship and lets the breeze blow over you. Doing this activity for a few minutes a day on a cruise ship will literally blow your cares away.

There are some occasions where the wind is not helpful to removing energy from the auric fields. Dry desert winds are not beneficial. An example of how dry wind affects people is the Santa Ana winds, which blow in Southern California. When the Santa Ana winds arrive, people report feeling nervous, uptight, on edge and have strong mood swings and irritability. These winds carry a large number of positive ions. Negative ions provide a peaceful and calming effect to the human auric fields. The opposite occurs with positive ions, as they make people feel upset and uncomfortable. The overabundance of positive ions in the Santa Ana wind also disrupts the auric energy fields rather than enhancing them.

Take a Breath of Fresh Air this Spring!
To clear energy from the auric fields, spend some time in an area with a strong breeze. To restore energy to the auric fields using the element of air, refer to the deep breathing and meditative exercises throughout the Awakened Aura book. Pull in clear fresh air and pure energy into the auric fields using three deep breaths. Deep breathing exercises are beneficial to the physical body and with each exhale you removes negative energy from the body and auric fields. In addition, to add air energy in or around your home, a wind chime will move the energy around your home. Place it near a window where a breeze will blow the chime around or near an air register where it will chime when the a/c unit blows. If you prefer not to have it near a window or vent, ring the wind chime once a day to circulate air energy.

Kelley writes – “Hello Kala, I have a digital alarm clock that I used to have to reset every 5 days or so because it gained time. I’ve had this clock a few years and its always been this way. My mother’s room was adjacent to mine. She recently died and since then I haven’t had to reset my clock!! Could she have affected the clock’s mechanism? It sounds weird but a few years ago she went to see a psychic who I had seen as well as other members of my family. He knew the names of deceased relatives, etc. There was no problem reading me or other members of my family. And no, we didn’t volunteer information as we were somewhat skeptical and didn’t want to give him any clues he could work from. Anyway, my mother went to see him and he was stumped. He tried and tried but he couldn’t read her. Are there people who can affect clocks, etc without knowing it? Thank you”.

Thanks for writing with a most intriguing question. You ask – “Are there people who can affect clocks, etc without knowing it”?

The short answer is Yes and it has been studied, researched and discussed by people in both the spiritual and scientific realms.

The Aura Body and Energy

As an intuitive, I’ve seen auras since childhood. Over the years, I began to study what I saw in the aura, observing the energetic patterns and shapes as well as short energy bursts that I would see erupting from the body, similar to what occurs when the sun emits a solar flare. These energetic bursts are capable of disrupting electronics and are felt by other people who have intuitive ability and are sensitive to energy. Some people are aware of the energy they can build and for others it is a complete surprise when it occurs.

In some cases, it is not a burst of energy that is created, but rather energy residue that has built up and is trapped within the aura and energy bodies and is not able to be released properly. To imagine what this looks like in the field surrounding the body, visualize a thunder storm right before the rain is released from the clouds. The clouds are heavy and full, the energy gathers and the air feels pregnant, ready for a release. If the conditions are not right and the rain is not able to gently fall, tumultuous weather patterns can occur with lightning and high winds. Energy blocked in the fields can cause similar disruptions as it seeks to be released. When there is a blockage which stops the release of energy, it builds like a thunderstorm and can create havoc.

There are also people who have learned consciously with their spiritual practice, and sometimes subconsciously carrying over information from previous lifetimes, to balance and harness this energy. They are able to take this energy to creative positive effects in the world including healing abilities in many forms, such as physical healing, soul healing, working with nature and raising the energy vibration of people and places wherever they are.

What About the Clocks

Each of the three energy types listed above can have an effect on the electronics near their energy field. I receive reports each year from people who have experiences including turning street lights on and off as they pass by them. Others affect the performance of radios, clocks, computers and televisions or cause lights, security alarms and other electronics in their home to turn off and on repeatedly. For many years, I was not able to wear a watch, as invariably, when I did, the watch would malfunction or stop completely. I’ve also had a similar effect on clocks, including the clock that I kept in the library where I taught the esoteric teachings for years. The clock would never keep the time and would randomly change the time often and then stop working completely. The clock was looked at to see if it was in need of repair and it was found to be in good working order. The batteries would be replaced with new batteries only to run down again quickly.

There are a variety of physical, emotional and spiritual reasons for why this happens. For some people, it occurs only when their emotions are running very high and for others it was a random event occurring only when they were going through puberty. Some of these people are tapping into what is described in parapsychology as psychokinesis/telekinesis (PK/TK). While there are skeptics who will say that the human body is not capable of affecting these fields, those who have experienced doing so first hand see the results.

Scientific Study

There has been some scientific parapsychological research on this effect, including what is referred to as the Pauli effect. Further research needs to be continued on psychokinesis, expanded consciousness and expanded energy fields so that it can be further understood. Unfortunately, there has not been enough support with funding for many institutes to continue these studies at the level needed to provide the deeper research needed. Some of the most notable researchers in this field of study include J.B. Rhine (Rhine Research Center), Professor Bill Roll (University of West Georgia), Dean Radin (Institute of Noetic Sciences) and Robert Jahn and Roger Nelson (PEAR laboratory at Princeton).

A form of psychokinesis/telekinesis was recently featured in the film with George Clooney entitled The Men Who Stare at Goats, which focused on the US Army’s research into psi abilities. Another example would be the fictional book and film by Stephen King entitled Carrie, which displayed an extreme and negative show of psi ability with PK/TK force.

Author Kala Ambrose in New Orleans

Ask me now about the first time I read Interview with a Vampire by Anne Rice and you’ll still see the warm grin rise from my lips along with a mischievous gleam appearing in my eye as I explain how her writing touched me and lured me into her world of vampires and their chronicles.

I grew up in Louisiana and when I discovered Ms. Rice’s books, I had moved away from my homeland.  When reading her books, I was not only touched by her stories, but by the vivid description and details of New Orleans.  She has the magnificent ability to allow one to taste, touch, smell and experience all six senses while reading her books, a feat not easily accomplished.

If you’ve followed me this far, you’ve figured out that I am a big fan of Anne Rice’s body of work. Maybe I connect with her writing so well because I also grew up Catholic in Louisiana, with a deep love of all things supernatural and paranormal. This could be part of why I enjoy her work so deeply, but truly moving beyond that parallel, I consider her ability to weave compelling story lines while immersing the reader into the story with history and sensory detail to be in the clearest sense of the word, masterful.

Years later, I was able to return to my beloved New Orleans, to write my book, Spirits of New Orleans: Voodoo Curses, Vampire Legends and Cities of the Dead. This book is part of a non-fiction series by the publisher entitled America’s Haunted Road Trip. Described as paranormal travel guides, they delve into the haunted history, legends and lore in the area.  I had previously written a book for this publisher entitled Ghosthunting North Carolina and when the call came to write about New Orleans, I was thrilled to return to my roots and reveal the stories about a city that I love with all of my being. It’s a pleasure to share this book with those who hear the siren song of New Orleans calling their name to visit her as often as possible.

This brings me to my exciting news about the book, as this October, I will be returning to New Orleans.  Each year the Anne Rice Vampire Lestat Fan Club (ARVLFC) holds the UnDead Conference and Vampire Ball in the city. This year, from October 24th through October 27th, 2013, people will gather to hear a panel of authors speak about their books on New Orleans and Vampires. The authors speaking this year at the conference include Anne Rice and her son Christopher and I’m pleased to announce that yours truly, Kala Ambrose will be speaking this year as well about Spirits of New Orleans as well as attending the Vampire Ball.

I had such a great time teaching about The Awakened Aura at Edgar Cayce’s ARE in Virginia Beach, in a beautiful room where the portrait of Cayce represented his presence and spirit throughout the building.

I’ve visited the ARE in the past and it was a joy to be there again, this time to teach and share.  If you haven’t been before, it’s well worth your time to visit, attend a workshop and explore the library and beautiful meditation room.

During my workshop an attendee mentioned that she had read in my book how I can see the aura of places, not just people. She remarked on the chapter where I share what I see in the aura of Florida when driving down to visit. She asked what I saw and sensed about the aura in Virginia Beach.

My reply was that I had spent some time earlier that day tuning into the energy of the area in order to discern the auric energy surrounding Virginia Beach. I found it to be similar to an open portal, a void if you will, similar in effect to a clear quartz crystal.

In this type of portal energy, the area pulsates with energy. It waits for people to enter the energy and then to manifest what they will, directing the energy towards positive or negative means of their choosing.

It also had me thinking about the proximity to Virginia Beach in regard to the Bermuda Triangle and that it may very well be on one of the ley lines, further enhancing the energy.

Happy New Year! The Chinese New Year, which begins February 10, 2013, is the Water Snake, which is a powerful symbol and sign of the return of the Divine Feminine! In China, snakes are referred to as small dragons and the body of the dragon and the snake are similar. Last year’s symbol was the Dragon and many are saying that the Dragon is taking a deep breath as 2012 ends and as he exhales, he is blowing out and releasing the negative energy that had been built up throughout the year. As he releases this energy into tiny particles that dissipate into the air, he then transforms into the Snake, which symbolizes regeneration within the person and without into the global world.

A Snake Year is very good for relationships and is considered a very fortuitous year to get married and to have children. It is a year where relationships bloom. Snakes also symbolize prosperity and if the Snake energy harmonizes with your Chinese astrological sign, it could also be a good year for your career to expand.  A good color to wear and use in your home and festivities this year to connect with the Snake energy is green.  The Pantone color system seems to be tapped into this energy as well this year, as they have announced Emerald Green as the 2013 Color.

The most recent Snake Year was 2001 with the Metal Snake year. This year is the Water Snake, which brings a much different energy. We will see a return to elegance and class and a respect for this type of style and design. This will be seen in fashion and home decor as we return to clothing that is more tasteful and artistic, rather than just flaunting the body. Home decor will reflect colors of the snake including green, blue, silver and gold.  The Art Deco period is a good example of elegance and artistic design blended into harmonious surroundings.

The Year of the Water Snake symbolizes Fertility, Intuition, Healing, Protection, Rejuvenation and Transformation of Knowledge into Wisdom.  Tap into this energy with respect and patience and you can access tremendous cosmic power, which can manifest great changes in your life!

On a personal note, I found this book to be fascinating. As a woman, I appreciated her exploration into sacred feminine sexuality and found her section on Awakening the Serpent and Dragon Power (page 151-171) enlightening and reminiscent of the techniques used in the ancient temples of the high priestesses.  Chapter Nine with the discussion of the Queen Bee and the pineal gland is also particularly inspiring.

As a mystery school teacher, of particular interest to me was her research into the Temples of the Divine Feminine along with her explanation of Mesopotamian mythologies, including the legend of Lilith, Hathor and Sophia.  She also does a fantastic job covering goddesses from all of the world’s religions.

I rate this book Five Stars out of a Five Star rating and recommend that it be a part of any metaphysicians library.

Spirits of New Orleans: Voodoo Curses, Vampire Legends and Cities of the Dead by Kala Ambrose

In the biggest surprise of SuperBowl 2013, it was the lights going down, not the losing team that is the talk of the town. For 34 minutes, half of the SuperDome in New Orleans was in darkness, causing a delay of game for the biggest event of the year.

NFL.com reported on this incident by saying… “About two hours after the game, won by the Ravens in a 34-31 thriller, officials revealed that an “abnormality” in the power system triggered an automatic shutdown, forcing backup systems to kick in. But they weren’t sure what caused the initial problem.”

While the Ravens and the 49ers stretched on the sidelines to remain limber and sportscasters rambled on to fill the time, my thoughts couldn’t help but wonder if the Voodoo Priestesses had been invited in this year to bless the Dome in order to appease the spirits who reside there.  My guess is that they had not, and so mayhem was the result.

Before you shake your head in bewilderment, allow me to explain a bit of the history of the SuperDome in New Orleans and the resident ghosts and spirits reported to remain there…

Back in 1822, the Girod Street Cemetery was established as an above ground cemetery with over two thousand wall vaults and one thousand tombs with some tombs rising eight tiers high above the ground. Thirty thousand people were buried here over the decades. Over time, the privately owned cemetery languished in great disrepair and was all but forgotten. In 1957, the cemetery was deconsecrated and the remains were moved to other cemeteries in order for a new structure to be built on these grounds. Workers moved in with bulldozers to dig into the ground and to their surprise, the unsightly excavation of human bones and remains were pulled up with each dig of the shovel, proving that not all of the bodies had been identified from this area and moved to the new location.

On these former burial grounds, the Louisiana Superdome was built, which is the home to the NFL’s New Orleans Saints.  Legend has it that the spirits were angry and restless after being moved from their burial grounds and so they cursed the Saints from winning.

In order to counteract this curse, Voodoo Priestesses were routinely called in before football games to appease the spirits and ask for their forgiveness.  Catholic priests and nuns also attend the games to bless the stadium while sprinkling holy water and calling in St. Michael to assist the spirits in letting go and moving on.

Reportedly after Hurricane Katrina in 2005, where so many residents sought shelter from the flood waters inside the Superdome, the curse was lifted by the spirits who felt so sorry for the people of New Orleans and the enormous price they paid during the flood.  These spirits now comfort the people of New Orleans and support their home team, opening the pathway for the Saints to win their first ever Super Bowl in 2010.

Word on the street these days though is that the current management has moved away in the past several years from allowing voodoo practitioners to make an offering for peace before the games and that this has affected the Saints playing as well as operations at the SuperDome as the spirits are displeased.  Was tonight’s “abnormality” partially paranormal?  No one knows for sure, but perhaps it wouldn’t hurt to bring back the voodoo rituals for peace as a safeguard for future events.
