Do You Know About Moon Phase Astrology

Available now on Explore Your Spirit with Kala Radio, my interview with Raven Kaldera, author of Moon Phase Astrology. The Moon’s ever-changing phases offer a way to deepen our understanding of our natal Moon sign as well as the Moon’s day-to-day influence on our emotional tides. Through its 8 phases and its wandering dance through each of the 12 signs of the Zodiac–from the Infant’s Moon (the New Moon in Aries) to the Storyteller’s Moon (the Full Moon in Gemini) to the Prophet’s Moon (the waning Balsamic Moon in Aquarius)–the Moon shares its story in 96 different ways.  Listen to the Show Here on Explore Your Spirit Radio

Telling the stories of the heart of all 96 Moon phase and Moon sign combinations, Raven Kaldera explains the creative gifts and emotional challenges bestowed upon those born under each Moon archetype as well as how to nurture the positive traits and improve–or at least discourage–the negative ones. Exploring the influences each Moon archetype has on us as it passes, the author reveals which Moons are the most difficult, what innate qualities each Moon brings out in us, and what we can do to honor each Moon. Including evocative quotes illuminating the nature of each Moon, Kaldera shows how to use your natal Moon’s astrological sign and phase to find your “hidden Moons”–the shadows cast by passing Moons–and predict how current and approaching Moons will affect you.

Connect with the Revitalizing Power of the Mercury Retrograde

Mercury the Messenger

We are currently under the planetary influence of a Mercury Retrograde, which is in the sign of Virgo and goes into effect on Tuesday, August 2, 2011 and ends on Friday, August 26, 2011.

Astrologists alert us to the dangers and mishaps that occur when Mercury goes retrograde including problems with electronics and communications in all forms. They warn us not to purchase computers, cars or washing machines during this period and to delay signing contracts or forming new partnerships.  Mishaps attributed to Mercury going retrograde include: bad haircuts, botched plastic surgeries, an increase in arguments with loved ones and co-workers due to misunderstanding what others are saying, computer hard drives and other electronics and machines breaking down or dying completely, travel delays and lost reservations. According to western astrologists, during a retrograde any type of communication is challenged and machines tend to break down more often than any other time of the year.

I’m not doubting this information, I’ve seen it occur first hand and lost count of how many times I’ve watched businesses attempt upgrades and buy equipment during retrograde periods where I thought to myself, if only they had consulted an astrologer, how much easier this might have gone for them. It’s also not surprising to see the heightened conflict and communication issues between President Obama and the GOP during this retrograde.

What I am saying though, is while good old Merc causes his share of trouble when he goes retro, he also brings a wealth of opportunities. If you understand how the retrograde works, you can use this information to your advantage.

When a retrograde occurs, the effects begin a week before the actual date, so in this case, you’ve already been affected by this astrological cycle since Tuesday, July 26, 2011. Retrogrades bring opportunities to reconnect, revisit, revise, review, reveal, and renew. If there’s someone you’ve been trying to connect with and have been unable to do so, you may find that they appear in your life at this time. If you have an unresolved issue, it may come to an end during this period or the missing information needed to bring closure to this matter reappears. It’s a powerful time to review your life and reconsider some of the decisions you’ve made in the past and resolve to change your life in the future. Just wait until the retrograde is over to take action and make clear decisions and for heaven’s sake, (astrologically speaking) don’t sign any contracts. For now, it’s time to reflect upon your life in a creative, free-flowing, brain storming type of direction.

Mercury retrogrades create the opportunity to relax and renew. It’s a great time to take a break this coming weekend and do something fun and get away. Just make sure to double check those reservations and have your car checked before you hit the road and the rest should be smooth sailing.

So the next time you hear about a mercury retrograde coming, there are usually three each year, mark your calendar so you avoid buying electronics during that period and double check your communications, including taking a deep breath and thinking twice before you blurt your feelings out loud and say something you might regret later. Use this time wisely to relax, unwind and enjoy some quiet time to review the path you’re on and where you’re heading next.

Are you a fan of tropical or sidereal? Exploring Astrology…

Mercury the Messenger

Welcome to Kala’s Quick Five, where I chat with fascinating authors, artists, teachers and researchers and ask them five questions about their work. My guest today is Raphael Simons, a psychic reader, astrologer (Western and Chinese forms) and feng shui expert. Raphael is the best selling author of Feng Shui, Step by Step, Feng Shui Strategies for Business Success: Arranging Your Office for Success and Prosperity, and The Feng Shui of Love. Raphael’s books on Feng Shui have sold worldwide and been translated into over twelve languages. Read Raphael’s blog here.

Kala: Raphael, a good portion of the world recently embraced a news report which stated that western astrology is wrong and off on their calculations roughly about a month. As well, the report stated that there are 13 astrological zodiac signs, rather than the current twelve. What’s your take on this report?

Raphael: It is a big confusion between ideas on sidereal astrology and tropical astrology. Sidereal astrology is based on ideas of divisions of the constellations. An example of this kind of astrology is Hindu astrology. The Hindu astrology has a system of signs that are approximations of constellations, and these signs/constellations follow the precession of the equinoxes. The precession of the equinoxes is the affect of the earth’s tilt. It takes approximately 27000 years for the entire cycle of the precession to be completed. What this does is causes the vernal equinox to slip backwards little by little through the constellations every year. Where we are currently is in the far end of Pisces going backwards into Aquarius. In other words, we are coming from the age of Pisces into the age of Aquarius. There is no consensus of opinion exactly when this occurs.

Tropical astrology, which is the standard form of Western astrology, is based on the Zodiac. The Zodiac is named after the constellations, but it is not measured by the constellations and never drifts. Vernal equinox in tropical astrology is always 0 degrees Aries. In sidereal astrology it is claimed that the vernal equinox happens somewhere in Pisces. We must not confuse the two systems. Tropical astrology is based in mathematics and geometry. It starts the zodiac at the point where the ecliptic, or Sun’s path intersects the earth’s equator on it’s northbound course. The ecliptic is the Sun’s apparent path in relation to the earth. Vernal equinox is when the Sun crosses the equator going North. Fall equinox is when the Sun crosses the equator going South. Summer solstice is the northernmost reach of the Sun’s path. Winter solstice is the southernmost point of the Sun’s path. The ecliptic in Tropical astrology is divided into 12 divisions, 30 degrees each. And these 12 divisions are called the zodiac signs. All of the planets travel along the ecliptic path along with the Sun and Moon. Tropical astrology is a perfect system based in ancient theories of harmonics, mathematical ratios and geometry. It should not be confused with ideas of sidereal astrology. Tropical works. There is no 13th sign.

Kala: You’re a chinese astrologer as well as a western astrologer. Do you connect with one more than the other? What are the biggest differences between chinese and western astrology?

Raphael: I like both systems. I use both, and enjoy them. They both amplify one another when seen side by side, but I have no preference.

Kala: Raphael, what do you think this means for consciousness on a global scale at this time? I’m surprised and shocked to see so many people who have taken the opinion of one astronomer as fact and are declaring that they are a new zodiac sign. They don’t appear to question the information or the fact that astrology is thousands of years old in practice. What is happening in our world that so many would accept one person’s opinion in a viral internet posting and allow it so quickly to change their beliefs?

Raphael: What I think is that there is a great deal of confusion happening these days. We can see the recent rash of noise about the 13th sign in the lunar eclipse chart of 12/21/10. In it, Venus was square Neptune, Neptune was in the 3rd house. This means that through the news department came a great confabulation of delusional nonsense.

Kala: What’s the future for astrology? Will this publicity raise awareness for astrology or cast a doubting shadow on the practice?

Raphael: I think the publicity was deliberately planted in the media to destroy public belief in astrology. Good astrologers see what the powers that be don’t want the public to see. There is a great deal of dishonest and obscurantist propaganda circulating in the media to keep the people from knowing what is going on. It is in the best interest for astrologers to learn astrology and not fall into these crazy ideas. The future of astrology is probably that it will continue being used and people will continue learning it. It proves itself time and time again to be true, and that is all that matters.

Kala: There are thousands of articles by astrologers with predictions for 2011 by zodiac signs for each person, but it’s rare to see an astrologer who will offer predictions for countries by their birth sign. Some would say the U.S. for example, was born on July 4th, Independence Day, others might say it was the date when the Constitution was signed, others when it was ratified.  Do you offer astrological predictions for countries by their birthdates and if so, what do you see coming for the U.S. in 2011?

Raphael: The birth charts for nations are useful and are a part of mundane astrology. Mundane astrology means astrological world predicting. The more important charts to make in mundane astrology are the charts for the equinoxes and solstices, the new and full moons, solar and lunar eclipses and major planetary configurations as seen over the various capitols of the world. Natal charts for the nations are used as well as charts for currencies and stock market indices. The chart for 7/4/1776 works. It is useful to refer to it in mundane forecasts as it is useful to refer to the natal charts of the other nations. For the UK, for instance, we refer to the chart made for the coronation of William the Conqueror on December 25, 1066 at noon. It always registers events in the UK.

Say What! Did My Zodiac Sign Just Change?

The twelve signs of the Zodiac

A recent article in the Minneapolis Star Tribune went viral after reporting that because of the earth wobbling on its axis and the moon’s gravitational pull, all signs of the zodiac are off by roughly a month.  According to the article, the ancient Babylonians originally had 13 constellations and later changed them to 12, throwing out Ophiuchus, who is known as the Snake Holder.

The article quoted Minneapolis astronomer and board member of the Minnesota Planetarium Society, Parke Kunkle as saying: “There is no physical connection between constellations and personality traits, said Kunkle, who teaches astronomy at Minneapolis Community and Technical College. “Sure, we can connect harvest to the stars,” he said. “But personality? No.”

There was no report on whether Kunkle has ever studied astrology or conducted any research in this field.

Call in Chicken Little, the sky is falling! Or is it?

Astrology has three main branches which are Chinese astrology, Indian-Vedic astrology and Western astrology. The Mayans and Aztecs both also have a form of astrology, though it is not as widely used as the other three. History records its first form with the ancient Babylonians and it was considered part of astronomy by the Babylonians. Astrology has been used to counsel Kings and Queens and other rulers for thousands of years in Egypt, Greece, India, China, and Europe including with Queen Elizabeth 1 and her famous astrologist John Dee. Astrology has also been prominent in the U.S. with world leaders, including former President Ronald Reagan who consulted with Joan Quigley while he was in the White House. Not just for political leaders, CEO’s and prominent entrepreneurs have sought the counsel of astrologers, including business mogul J.P. Morgan, who is quoted as saying, ‘Anyone can be a millionaire, but to become a billionaire, you need an astrologer.’

Let’s get down to the heart of the matter and find out how this confusion actually occurred with the current misconception about the zodiac and astrology. Why with all this mis-communication, you would think there’s a Mercury Retrograde.

I spoke with Marguerite Manning, an author and professional astrologer. Marguerite’s book, Cosmic Karma: Understanding Your Contract with the Universe, teaches how to study your birth chart in the same way ancient astronomers believed it should be studied – as a universal birth map of your soul’s chosen energies for this lifetime.

Kala: Marguerite, thanks for speaking with me here about this recent report on the astrological signs changing dates and shifting into 13 zodiac signs. What gives here? Can thousands of years of astrology and astrologists around the world be wrong?

Marguerite: Absolutely not Kala, and trust me when I tell you this report is not breaking news to astrologers. In fact, every few years some kind of report comes out to let the world know that the stars “don’t line up anymore” and while I can’t speak for all of my fellow stargazers,  here’s my take on it:

As every astrologer will tell you, due to the Precession Of the Equinox, (which is the name for the gradual backward motion of the outer visible Universe caused by the earth’s “wobble” on its axis) the Sun’s position in the zodiac doesn’t match up to the constellations anymore the way it used to 3,000 years ago when Draconis was our pole star. This means that these days on the first day of Spring, March 21st, the Sun is NOT actually at 00 degrees Aries as it used to be on that date but is actually 24 degrees further back on the ecliptic at about 5 degrees Pisces. Now sidereal astrologers are the astrologers who measure planets against the stars as they are located on the ecliptic today. Tropical astrologers, like myself, measure planetary positions against where the stars use to be on ecliptic, using the seasons instead of the stars as their guidelines. Now believe it or not, even though Tropical astrology is the most common form of astrology, both types of astrologers swear by their systems. However, after years of experimenting with both, the Tropical system is the one I “swear by” and that’s because from my perspective, as a karmic astrologer, there’s a reason the planets do NOT line up with the stars anymore. A reason that the very principles of my book, Cosmic Karma, were based on. The same reason that helped me derive the breakthrough astrological formula for finding the soul’s past in the birth chart: You see I believe we wobble on our axis because the constellations in the outer visible Universe are no longer supposed to reflect the here and now. And while 3000 years ago that’s exactly what they did, I believe that because each one of our souls, like the Universe itself, is evolving, those fixed stars in the constellations now have a different purpose in the natal sky. They are NOT reflecting who we are here to BECOME today (as they use to). They are actually up there reflecting who our soul actually IS as a result of all of our previous yesterdays. In other words, those stars are now illuminating the very specific and evolved individuals we are here to physically BE in this lifetime.

Therefore, and from that perspective, our sun sign doesn’t reflect the energies of what we are here in this life to learn, it reflects what we have already “aced” in our last lives and now have at our disposal to use here in this one…good, bad or fattening. So based on that important principle, (and here it is)….I‘m convinced  the constellations don’t line up to our calendar anymore because the energies they reflect don’t represent today, they represent the past! Our soul’s calendar. Furthermore, based on that principle, the sign placement of every natal planet does the same and represents our soul’s past with that planet‘s energy. For example, our Mars sign (our physical past), our Pluto sign (our past experiences with power), etc. On the other astrological hand, however, the house placement of each natal planet (it’s mathematical relationship to the earth at the time of birth) does represent today because it represents the specific areas of life where our soul promised to use those energies (skills, experience and influence) in this lifetime. In short, today’s human agenda. Again, we always have free choice so whether we choose to use the positive or the negative energies of our Sun sign, Mars sign or Pluto sign, etc., is totally and completely up to us -and of course, the energies we were born under. So the good news is we are all exactly who we thought we were before we heard the latest headlines. Unfortunately, for some of us, that may also be the not-so-good news.

Kala: Who is Ophiuchus, the snake holder and was he ever “in” and why is he “out”?  Many people are now discussing the calendar which revolves around 13 moons and why don’t we have a 13th zodiac sign?

Marguerite:
Again, Kala, Ophiuchus, like the Precession of the Equinox, is not “breaking news” to any astrologer I know. In fact Ophiuchus was one of the 48 constellations listed by the second-century astronomer Ptolemy and remains one of the 88 modern constellations today. Located around the celestial equator, it’s name is Greek for ‘serpent-bearer’, and it is commonly represented as a man grasping the snake that is represented by the constellation it borders, Serpens.

For the astrological record, and despite the “breaking headlines” today, this constellation was NEVER considered to be part of the zodiac belt because when the zodiac was first  invented by the Babylonians 3000 years ago, the Sun did not pass through this sign at all and only moved through the twelve constellations which we still refer to as the zodiac. However, due to the Precession of the Equinox and the slight backward shift of the stars, the Sun does now pass through Ophiuchus for about 17 days each December (from November 30th through December 17th ). Astrologers were always aware of this occurrence yet based on a 1930 constellation boundaries report, only a few 20th century sidereal astrologers considered the sun to actually be in the “sign of Ophiuchus” when it did. Tropical astrologers, on the other hand (as well as most sidereal astrologers), have never recognized Ophiuchus as a legitimate zodiac sign.

Kala: Five years ago, a similar report had sprung up and people were in a panic over the news. Back then in 2006 on the Explore Your Spirit Show, I covered these same questions with a panel of astrologers on my show to explain the confusion. Why does this same conflict continue to arise and why do you think so many people are so quick to jump on the bandwagon and believe one small report versus thousands of years of astrology?

Marguerite: You know Kala, from the beginning of time there have always been people who were unwilling to recognize astrology as a legitimate science and I’m afraid there always will be. I think much of that has to do with the darker status it acquired when the church separated it from the science of astronomy and denounced it as an “occult practice”. Since then it has never really regained the status of “science” or even “metaphysical science” it deserves. The Babylonians are generally credited with the birth of astrology (1645 B.C.). Their astrological charts enabled them to predict the recurrence of seasons and certain celestial events. So, as we mentioned earlier, in the beginning and for more than 2000 years, astrology and astronomy were the same science. Babylonian astrology was introduced to the Greeks early in the 4th century B.C. and, through the studies of Plato, Aristotle and other respected men of science, astrology came to be highly regarded as a science. Not much later, it was embraced by the Romans (whose names for the zodiacal signs are the ones still used today) followed by the Arabs and later spread throughout the entire world. By the time of Francis Bacon and the scientific revolution, astrology and astronomy began to diverge and while astronomy remained a central science, astrology was increasingly positioned as an occult practice or superstition by the religious powers that be who then forced this belief on natural scientists. This decline accelerated through the 18th and 19th centuries and it’s only lately, in the last 30 years, that astrology is starting to be recognized as a scientific practice again. For that reason, one of my proudest moments was discovering that my publisher, Llewelllyn Worldwide, had categorized my book to be sold in the “Self Help/Spiritual” section of each book store rather than the “Occult” section.

Kala: Astrology in the past was under the field of astronomy. Now astronomers discount the field. In the 21st century, there is great hope that Science and Spirituality will begin to work together to find answers to the many mysteries of the universe. This report struck me as a pie in the face to astrologers. Is there a future where scientists will work with professional astrologers?

Marguerite: I really hope so, Kala because until we do, I believe science in general and astronomy in particular is missing a big chunk of the Universal puzzle. A chunk that wasn’t missing years ago because, as you mentioned, unlike our astronomers today, the ancient astronomers practiced astronomy and astrology as one comprehensive science because, while they knew our existence on this planet was designed to be depressingly physical, after years spent doing the medieval math, they were equally convinced that the universe we inhabited was more than just one-dimensional. Most people would think: “in their primitive world, how could they know?“ As far as I’m concerned, in their line of work, how could they not? As professional astronomers they not only studied the heavens to discover how celestial objects moved and the universe worked as a whole; as equally professional astrologers (a job that was in many ways more difficult and in every way more mathematical) they analyzed those findings to determine how those movements affected all of us down below. “All of us” meaning our minds, bodies, and souls. In fact, for that reason (and despite the political correctness and religious pressures of their time-and there were many) these seasoned sky watchers were among the first to adopt the principle that ours was a multi-leveled universe made up of nothing but well-ordered energy. Talk about impressive! To their way of thinking, mental energy vibrated on the intellectual level; body energy vibrated on the physical level; and the eternal part of anything, or the “soul,” vibrated on yet another level. A level, incidentally, that today’s “hard” scientists still refuse to acknowledge as being a scientific one—the spiritual level. And while we all know that just about every scientist today embraces the concept that all energy is connected, these very best minds of yesterday were the first, and in many cases the only, to officially acknowledge all of the levels in our particular time space continuum that were necessary to actually connect it. They had no choice. To them, a universe could only be “divine” if it was available to all energy on all levels. If ours was a divine universe (which they decided it was based on the way they determined it functioned) then it had to be available to the mind, body and soul of everything that vibrated to it and, therefore, existed in it. A category, by the way that included us. All of us. Therefore, it had to be a universe in which mental, physical and spiritual energy flowed continuously, harmoniously and circularly—a universe where the physical science of astronomy included the spiritual reality of astrology. It was that simple because to them it was just science. But here’s the amazing part, according to the Universal Laws of Divine Order, that concept still is.

But, while this kind of thinking puts them clearly ahead of their own time, it’s not what (in my opinion) puts them ahead of ours. This does: in their professional opinion, in this particular universe, all of that well-ordered energy was divine, and (wait for it) one of the levels it operated on was spiritual. I’m convinced that’s how they were able to glean so much information about our solar system and this Universe that to this day, still stands up. And when you think of the limited tools and technology they had at their disposal, that’s nothing short of incredible. Besides, if spirit is the highest intellectual dimension, as many believe it is, wouldn’t the wonderful world of science in general and the field of astronomy in particular be better off if this overlooked dimension were invited to the cosmic party? Wouldn’t it be a more interesting party? At the very least, wouldn’t it be a more stimulating one? I think so.

Kala: Thank you Marguerite. Dear readers, I now turn the question to you and ask, ‘Is this a sign of the times?’ What does it say about the fate of humanity when one astronomer’s opinion of astrology has the power to go viral and upset so many people? This perhaps is the most concerning point of all. Share your thoughts on this matter.  Want to hear more from Marguerite? She was my guest on the Explore Your Spirit show. Mercury Retrograde – Embrace It!

Yes, that’s right, for all you astrology followers out there, I said it, Embrace the upcoming Mercury Retrograde, which goes into effect on Friday, August 20th and ends on Sunday, September 12th, 2010.

We’ve always been alerted to the dangers and mishaps that occur when Mercury goes retrograde, including problems with electronics and communication. I’m not doubting that information, I’ve seen it occur first hand and I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve watched businesses attempt upgrades and buy equipment during these periods where I thought to myself, if only they had consulted an astrologer, how much easier this would have gone for them.

What I am saying though, is while good old Merc causes his share of trouble when he goes retro, he also brings a wealth of opportunities and if you understand how the retrograde works, you can use this information to your advantage.

When a retrograde occurs, the effects begin a week before the actual date, so in this case, you’ve already been affected by this cycle since August 13th. Retrogrades bring opportunities to reconnect, revisit, revise, review, reveal, and renew. If there’s someone you’ve been trying to connect with and have been unable to do so, you may find that they appear in your life at this time. If you have an unresolved issue, it may come to an end during this time. It’s a powerful time to review your life and reconsider some of the decisions you’ve made in the past and resolve to change your life in the future. Just wait till the retrograde is over to take the actual actions and make clear decisions and for heaven’s sake, don’t sign any contracts. For now, it’s time to reflect upon your life in a creative, free-flowing, brain storming type of direction.

It’s also a powerful time to relax and renew, a great time to take a break this coming weekend and do something fun and get away. Just make sure to double check those reservations and have your car checked before you travel far and the rest should be smooth sailing.

So the next time you hear about a retrograde coming, mark your calendar so you avoid buying electronics during that period and double check all communications, including taking a deep breath and thinking twice before you blurt your feelings out loud and say something you might regret later. Use this time wisely to relax, unwind and enjoy some quiet time to review the path you’re on and where you’re heading next.

Esoteric Go To Guide – The Secret Teachings of All Ages

Originally published in 1928, Manly P. Hall’s, The Secret Teachings of All Ages was previously only available in a handsomely bound, large size and expensive edition. Though certainly a collector’s item and treasure for any library, I was happy to discover that Penguin with the Philosophical Research Society has republished the book in a paperback version, making it affordable for the masses.

Hall’s ‘encyclopedia’ covers the esoteric mysteries from around the world, including ancient occult traditions, esoteric mystery schools and temples, religion and philosophy, ancient symbols and myths, and offers a glimpse into a vast library of teachings including Masonic, Hermetic, Qabbalistic and Rosicrusian symbolic philosophy.

From the Druidic mysteries of ancient Britain, to the Gnostics, Mithras, the Eleusinian Mysteries, and Plato’s ponderings, to the Oracle of Delphi, Pythagorus, and Egypt, the 755 page tome answers many questions for the aspiring occult or esoteric student and includes illustrations.

Author Manly P. Hall (1901-1990) was widely regarded as a a sage and teacher, steeped in the wisdom of antiquity and one of the leading esoteric scholars of the twentieth century. In 1934, he founded the Philosophical Research Society in Los Angeles, which continues to publish Hall’s many works and pursue his educational mission.

More information about Manly P. Hall and his work can be found here in this video below:

Lebron James makes Heat decision during Capricorn eclipse

The solar and lunar eclipse cycles this year (full moon eclipse on June 26 and solar new moon eclipse on July 11) will have the greatest effect on the cardinal signs of Capricorn, Aries, Libra and Cancer, especially those born early in the sign. For Capricorns, early in the sign would be those with December birthdays. These eclipses bring their strongest energy three days before and after the actual event dates, which has the July eclipse effect being felt beginning on the 8th. The after-effects of an eclipse continue to be felt for another six months.

The current powerful eclipse cycle marks a time of great change, and brings to a head decisions of priorities between home and career. An example of this eclipse in action is with NBA star Lebron James, born December 30, 1984, making him a Capricorn, who has just announced his decision to join the Heat in Miami.

This undoubtably was a tough decision for Lebron, an Ohio native, to leave Cleveland as he had spent the last seven years there with the team, giving them all that he had heart and soul. The intensity of the eclipse, which allows no room for complacency, may have given him that extra push to make a dramatic change in his career and leave home. By all accounts, joining the Heat in Miami will take his career to the next level and meet his ultimate goal of winning a championship.

Eclipses bring things to a head and sound the clarion call to action. While many fear the swift changes that eclipses bring, in the long run they can be seen as helping to shake people from situations where they needed to make a change and were stalling for one reason or another. Eclipses open your eyes and leave you little room to continue to live as you were.

The eclipse in late June was an especially difficult and challenging period for Capricorns and Cancers and may have had them second guessing their decisions. It is highly possible that Lebron only made peace with his decision to go to Miami on July 8th, as the new eclipse delivers a more soothing energy in comparison to the one in June.

Lebron has just made the biggest decision of his career by choosing to move to Miami to play for the Heat. This move potentially will create the most powerful and popular dream team in basketball, the last perhaps being with Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippin.

Looking into the future at Lebron’s relationships with the Heat, April 22,1987 is the date when the NBA selected the Miami Heat as an expansion team, so their birthday can be listed as this date, making the team ruled by Taurus, which is a compatible sign for Lebron as a Capricorn, especially in financial dealings. Astrologically, this eclipse also marks a fortuitous time for Capricorns when searching for real estate, so the timing is right for Lebron to find his dream home in Miami.

The last time an eclipse affected Capricorn at this level, was June 26, 1991. What occurred during that time will be similar to what occurs this year. Lebron would have been 6 years old, turning 7 in December of that year. It would be interesting to know if he decided that basketball was his love at this young age while he was in elementary school and what else was happening in his life at that time in order to compare.

Looking into the eye of the tiger on Chinese New Year

Gong Xi Fa Cai! is Mandarin for Happy New Year, which is also pronounced as Gung Hay Fat Choy in Cantonese. February 14th, 2010,  is the New Year as celebrated in China and this year is the Year of the Tiger, which is also referred to as Geng Yin. The animal which corresponds to each new year, is based on the ancient tradition of Chinese Astrology with 12 zodiac animals, which are: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig.

The Chinese New Year is the most important traditional holiday in China and is also referred to as the Spring Festival. The date of the new year is based on a lunar calendar, which has been used for centuries and is much older than the solar Gregorian calendar used in the west for most events.  This year, which is dated in the west as 2010, is Year 4707 in the chinese calendar. Since the lunar calendar follows the cycle of the moon, the date of the new year fluctuates each year, falling sometime between mid January and mid February.  In the west, lunar cycles are followed for some holidays and events, including the celebration of Easter, which is based on a lunar cycle, which is why it falls on a different date each year.

Chinese New Year is a joyous celebration incorporating body, mind and spirit traditions.  It is celebrated with gift giving, colorful decorations, extensive parties, spectacular firework displays and mult-generational celebrations. Families prepare their homes by cleaning them thoroughly and use brooms to sweep away any bad luck from the past, clearing the path for good fortune to enter the home in the new year. Auspicious symbols are hung in windows and on doors to bring in joy, wealth, long life and other positive affirmations.  It is revered as a time to let go of the past, release old feelings and open to a new year filled with hope, peace, abundance and joy.

2009 was the Year of the Ox, which was defined as a year of slow growth and a time to create stability. Those who worked hard on their endeavors in 2009, may not have seen much come to fruition during the year, but their work will have a good chance of being rewarded this coming year, though Tiger years can be tumultuous and a little tricky.  One of the careers that does well during an ox year is agriculture and this can be seen in review of 2009, as a powerful and positive focus was placed on the food we eat, with movies such as Food Inc as well as the desire to return to organic nurturing foods and a focus on how food is prepared and animals are treated. The going green campaign received tremendous attention during the year of the Ox.

This year, the Tiger, is unleashed. If you were born in 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, or 1998, you are a Tiger. To find out what Chinese Astrological sign that you are, visit here: http://www.gotohoroscope.com/chinese-astrology.html

The Tiger is on the opposite end of the energy spectrum in terms of animals and years. The Ox was plodding, slow, stabile, the Tiger leaps onto the scene, creating strong energy and raising passion wherever he goes.  This is exciting and many people are ready for something new to occur and see movement in their lives, in striking comparison to this past year, where everything seemed to be stuck in the mud and moving slowly, from finances, to creative endeavors, to working through relationships. Tiger years brings passion and powerful change. This can be activated in both positive and negative outcomes.  The urge to fight is greater, which can bring about positive changes in society, swiftly removing outdated ways of operating, but can also bring swift destruction and rebellion, depending upon the emotional intensity of the situation and whether cooler heads are able to prevail and direct the energy in the highest and best manner.  During a Tiger year, situations that are hanging on by a thread, have a good chance of breaking, including relationships, business partnerships and political agendas. One of the most significant Tiger years was 1974, which was the year of Watergate and the resignation of Richard Nixon.

Delving into greater detail, this is the year of the Metal/White Tiger. For more about what this year brings, read Albuquerque Metaphysical Examiner Raphael Simons article on: The Year of the Metal Tiger in Chinese Astrology: Predictions.

Perhaps it is a most fortituous sign, that the 2010 Chinese New Year falls on St. Valentine’s Day this year, culminating a time of celebration and joy with the energy of love in the west.  The Tiger is notoriously impulsive and wildly romantic, which may very well symbolize what is to come in this new year.

Wishing you great fortune in this New Year!

12 Gifts of Enlightenment – Give the Gift of Good Timing

Ask any expert on how they achieved their success and they’ll tell you that it’s a dedicated combination of hard work, timing, expert planning and a little bit of luck.  As we enter the new year and a brand new decade, perhaps it’s time to gather reinforcements to take those dreams and manifest them into reality.

This brings us to Gift Ten on the 12 Gifts of Enlightenment.
Gift Ten is – Give the Gift of Good Timing.

Mystics and seers have counseled through the ages that there are favored moments of opportunity, where intention can be directed and focused with greater clarity. A time honored tradition to assist with this planning is astrology. Conscious creators would be well advised to have an astrologer to work with on a long term basis. I have several that I consult with, especially when making a major life change. Consider the fact that when you are making a major decision on real estate, you consult a realtor, and you use an expert for financial planning and medical care. When timing is a crucial factor for a decision, whether for marriage, children, career, or even a better date to have elective surgery, shouldn’t you consult with an expert for some guidance and information?  One of my favorite astrologers is Marguerite Manning, an astrologer and author of Cosmic Karma: Understanding Your Contract with the Universe. Marguerite gets right down to the heart and the soul of the matter and astrologically provides answers and guidance to your most important questions. Want to know more about Marguerite and her book? Listen to my interview with her on the Explore Your Spirit with Kala Show.

For the metaphysician in your life who likes to work with timing down to the days and cycles and uses herbs and candles in their work, a helpful guide to give to them is:  The Spellcaster’s Reference: Magickal Timing for the Wheel of the Year by Eileen Holland. Eileen breaks it all down to the hours of the day, astrological influences and accompanying oils, herbs, plants and other ingredients. Eileen begins the book sharing the esoteric reference of “as above, so below”, which has been taught in mystery temples throughout the ages and guides the reader through the wheel of the year and its corresponding influences. This is a well crafted guidebook that practitioners will keep close by on the shelf to refer to throughout the year.

Been working on manifesting your dreams and feel like you need a boost?  Author Judika Illes book, Magic When You Need It: 150 Spells You Can’t Live Without covers Money, Career, Love, Sex, Marriage, Children, Home and Trouble. Judika has created a handy guide with straightforward instructions and easily obtainable ingredients to conceive a ‘power pack’ assisting you on your journey. Consider it a cross blending of old world charms with new world accessibility.  One of my favorite spells is on page 110, dealing with pest control. The solution that she offers in the book, is almost exactly the same as one I was taught by a shaman years ago, which just agains reminds us that universal truths in nature and spirituality are shared by cultures all around the world. Another favorite is on page 96, Find A Home, with step by step instructions to manifest your dream home. Judika has put in the hard work to gather all of this information and put it together in an easy reference guide for all that ails you.

A calendar to mark the cycles of the moon and holidays is always a great service. This year, consider buying a copy of the Farmers Almanac as well as The Witches Alamanac. The Witches Almanac offers astrological information for the year as well as stories and a wealth of information on nature and the animal kingdom.  I particularly enjoyed the article on the Fleur De Lis, as well as the article on magical crossroads and the healing and protective properties of garlic.

Whether you choose to use a reference guide, calendar or an astrologist, the most important aspect to accomplishing your goals is timing. Prepare as best as you can, with good advice and information, but also be aware that surprises will come up, no matter how hard you plan. The real trick is to accept change and to be open to seeing pitfalls as potentials in the making. As Peaceful Warrior author Dan Millman said, “I learned that we can do anything, but we can’t do everything… at least not at the same time. So think of your priorities not in terms of what activities you do, but when you do them. Timing is everything”.

Tune in tomorrow as we explore Enlightenment Gift Number Eleven. 2010 – The New Renaissance Begins

Happy New Year! This new year begins with a most auspicious sign- a Full Blue Moon in conjunction with a Mercury Retrograde. This is significant as it heralds a new cycle of energy, releasing the past and opening the door to unlimited possibilities. This new year and new decade, is going to bring a major shift in our conscious thinking and open the door to further self-realization.

Time has been moving at an unparalleled rate, which has brought us the gift of seeing our hopes, dreams, thoughts, and wishes manifest at a surprising and sometimes alarming rate. Truly this past decade has focused on the belief that ‘if we can think it, we can achieve it’.

As we’ve dared to dream and open our mind, the shift of ages from Pisces to Aquarius is gifting us with a never before seen outpouring of information. No longer are we reliant upon a particular university, library or reference text to provide information. From the heavens above, Aquarius has tipped the waters of illumination and knowledge from the gods back down to earth for us to receive. Through the air sign of Aquarius, we have seen this information fly quickly through the internet, connecting humanity on a global scale and providing information on any topic we can conceive of, at any time, with multiple resources to consider and cross reference. With this gift of knowledge in the new millennium, we’ve shared our life stories, bonded in social networks, blogged our thoughts, shopped and supported local and global businesses whose store fronts we may never see, learned about cultures throughout the world and now twitter our thoughts to thousands, as fast as we think of them.

This past decade was deemed the Age of Information and truly it has been, as many now complain of information overload, with so much available in hand. What will this new decade bring? We are proverbially set free to explore. Those that fail to see the opportunity waiting at this time, will regret in the future what they did not dare to try. As Mark Twain once said….. “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did so. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover”.

On our evolution as Conscious Spiritual Beings, we’ve spent this last decade becoming Conscious Creators, playing with the new toys we’ve received. Beginning in 2010, the journey continues and evolves as we move from knowledge, into wisdom. What is the different between knowledge and wisdom you ask? Knowledge is the awareness of the information. Wisdom is gained from taking the knowledge, putting it into action, observing how the action causes various reactions and then gaining discernment of how it best can be used. Once these factors have all been put into play, the result is wisdom.

In this new decade, we are moving into a new Age of Enlightenment. The Aquarian information from the gods can no longer be contained, the Divine Feminine is being released in all her glory and we will once again see a Renaissance period, where great art, architecture, philosophy, literature and science will develop and flourish. During this decade the greatest minds will stir, to share, to illuminate and to build and create works and ideas that will be marveled around the world.

You dear reader, are one of these creators. If you have been waiting for a sign, if you have wondered – when is my time, this is it, we’ve arrived. 2010 is your date, your time to shine. Fly boldly now in the direction of your dreams and use all the resources at your disposal. In this decade we will connect mind, body and spirit as the ancients did, connecting with our muses, using our intuition and dreams to guide us and we’ll work in tandem on the spiritual and on the earth planes. It’s here, we’re here and this decade will be one of historic making proportions on every level. So Celebrate, Reciprocate and Go Create!

Remember, the best is yet to come…
