Perhaps there is no better time than on April 15th, the deadline to file taxes, to make a conscious decision of how the energy around this day will affect you. The act and power of gratitude has a direct effect on our lives on physical, spiritual, mental and emotional levels and studies have shown that living life with appreciation leads to sense of well-being and happiness. The secret to a happy and fulfilled life may rely on focusing on all the good in life, rather than what is lacking or not going well at the moment.

As Sarah Ban Breathnach, author of Simple Abundance has said, “Both abundance and lack exist simultaneously in our lives, as parallel realities. It is always our conscious choice which secret garden we will tend… when we choose not to focus on what is missing from our lives but are grateful for the abundance that’s present — love, health, family, friends, work, the joys of nature and personal pursuits that bring us pleasure — the wasteland of illusion falls away and we experience heaven on earth”.

Continuing with the global consciousness movement of having an attitude of gratitude, authors Nina Lesowitz and Mary Beth Sammons, have written a book titled: Living Life as a Thank You: The Transformative Power of Daily Gratitude, which offers simple and clear direction on how to transform fears into acts of courage and release anger to move into a state of forgiveness and grace.

A power-filled, pocket size companion, it’s jam packed with clear, concise, easy-peasy ways to jump start the act of living each day with gratitude. Inspirational chapters include “Putting Gratitude into Action”, “Ways to Stay Thankful during Difficult Times” and “Inspiration and Perspiration: All Parts Gratitude” which includes stories from individuals who have found ways to transform their lives by being grateful for each moment and having the wisdom to see each challenge in life as a way to face the unknown, conquer their fears and empower themselves to living each day with grace and strength of character.

A quick and easy read, the book makes a nice gift for Mother’s Day or a friend’s birthday. Authors Lesowitz and Sammons have done a nice job of compiling stories from a diverse group of people along with sharing gratitude practices and exercises at the end of every chapter. One sure to be favorite is on page 102, “Getting into the Habit of Appreciation and Gratitude for Your Teen”, where Dr. John Duffy offers a meditation exercise to shift the energy as your child moves from a tween to a teen or as he describes… “…the terrible two’s has shifted to the terrible teens”.

I practice gratitude in my daily life and in companion to gratitude, I love to pay it forward. Today, I have the joy of doing both, I’m grateful for this book which serves as a wonderful reminder to all the beauty and abundance in our world and appreciate the authors work here as a gift to all. Pick up a copy today for yourself and one as a gift and help spread the act of “Living Life as a Thank You”. My favorite quote in the book is on page 41, “Let us be grateful to people who make us happy – they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom”.

In this time of reflection and connection, we gather to celebrate the abundance in our lives. As we look across the proverbial table at the harvest we’ve collected – our relationships, love, family, joy, and friends, it becomes remarkably clear that we are a sum of many parts and that each of these parts are interconnected and interact with each person in our lives.

Each relationship strengthens us and allows us to stretch beyond our boundaries in ways that we may not have imagined. The golden cord on which this energy travels is linked through our soul and our spiritual connections. Whether or not we are aware of these connections when they occur, the ripple effect from the thoughts, emotions and actions from that moment forward become part of who we are and shape our destiny.

As we float along in this sea of energy on the physical plane, which we refer to as planet earth, let us join in a prayer of gratitude for this planet, this great gift given to each of us, with its inspirational natural beauty and nourishing resources.

Today, say a prayer of thanks, for all the bountiful good in your life. When you do, make sure to remember to include the planet in your prayers. The energy in each prayer is powerful and sends ripples of white light around the planet and surrounds each person that you include in your prayers. One of the greatest esoteric teachings to be shared is to remember how powerful each of us are and how much energy is behind each prayer, especially when conscious thought is focused with the prayer. When you pray, speak the words aloud, visualize the intent and direct the energy toward your intention. With careful focus and direction, a prayer can move mountains.

One of the most powerful ways to activate the prayer that you speak, is to then put it into action. Visualize the prayer and then consider how you can live in sync with the prayer in your daily actions. Then turn this prayer into your vision statement, so that you can live and act according to the prayer that you wish to see come to fruition. In this act, you are aligning with the Divine and you in your body, mind and spirit, are becoming a temple in which for the prayer to come through. My action prayer/vision statement for my work on Explore Your Spirit and as a teacher of the esoteric teachings is this: “Spirit does not exist in just one location; rather it is all encompassing, living within and amongst us in each moment, thought and action. I believe that Spirit is raised to it’s highest level, when individuals gather with wisdom, compassion and a discerning desire to provide service to humanity”.

With this prayer in mind, I invite you, here in the now, in this season of thanksgiving, abundance and gratitude, to say a prayer, give thanks and then become the action that you wish to see in your prayer.

With the world’s economy on such shaky ground as the old structures crumble to make way for the new, there are millions of people who consider themselves in dire financial straits. They are facing such potentially core-shaking events as home foreclosures, job losses, and bankruptcy. Many are experiencing utter desperation because they just don’t know what to do.

If that’s you—or if you’re in any situation that has you feeling in dire straits—I invite you to do the most powerful thing possible: surrender. Give everything over to your Spirit to sort out. Turn it over to the wise, powerful aspect of you to handle, and be willing to listen for and act on your Spirit’s guidance in taking any practical steps that need to be taken.

I invite you to use this experience as your proving ground for your beliefs—to put your spirituality to the test—so that you can demonstrate the very truths you’ve adopted and have made your intention to live by. And what better time is there to do that than when your back is to the wall? Up against the wall is a power place when you decide it is. When you’re up against the wall, the most powerful response is to say to your Spirit, “I surrender this to you.”

Only One Thing is Standing In The Way of The Abundant Life You Were Designed to Live

Your very design as a human being calls for you to thrive, live in harmony, and be abundantly blessed. But there is an important part of this that many have missed. This harmony and abundance depends on you listening to your Spirit’s voice above all other voices, and following its guidance faithfully. That is how the Creator set things up for humanity to live a life of joy, ease, and harmony.

But you cannot expect the level of abundant blessing you were designed to enjoy when you allow the loud, panicked voice of the Fearful Self to drown out the calm, sure, wise voice of your Spirit. And heaven knows, this whole economic scenario is riling up our fearful aspects and causing them to scream bloody murder! Financial trouble strikes right at the major hot buttons of your Fearful Self, also known as your ego.

The threat of losing one’s home, of not having enough food, of not being able to provide abundantly for one’s family, of feeling like a failure, and so on—these all hit ego right where it lives (no pun intended). Because ego’s agenda lines right up with the agenda of your primitive brain, known in the Triune Brain Model as the reptilian brain, that part of you that is concerned with your physical survival, it is particularly stressed at anything to do with threats to survival or status. And when ego’s buttons are pushed, it is loud and insistent on getting your attention.

But you can’t let the threatened ego take over and drown out the voice of your Spirit. You need to do whatever it takes to soothe the poor, terrified thing into quietude so that Spirit’s voice can be heard in response. The key to doing this is to raise your vibration, because the higher you go, the fainter ego’s voice is, and the clearer Spirit’s voice.

The Fearful Self Must Be Allowed Its Say, or There Will Be No Peace

The thing is, though, ego is not going to let this happen without first being heard. Ironically, in order to quiet its voice, you will first need to let it express itself. Your helpless little-child ego-self is going to need to wail it out and your teenaged ego-self is going to need to yell about how unfair it all is. Every level of ego will need to discharge its anger and express its fear. That is not dwelling on the negative; it is managing your vibration by managing your feelings. Trying to go higher without clearing out all this emotional energy is futile. Stuffing your fear and trying to paste a smiley face on it in the name of being positive is just not going to work.

You may recognize this emotional release as being Step 3 from the Step-By-Step Frequency Raising System. Whenever you feel the fear and emotional energy building up, have a #3 and clear it out on purpose. That is how you clear the way to the empowering guidance of your omniscient Spirit.

After releasing the fearful emotions, use some of the many tools listed in the Step-By-Step system to transcend your fearful ego and go higher in vibration, and, thus, closer to your Spirit. Uplifting music, aromatherapy, physical exercise, appreciating nature—or a combination of these or others—will help you move higher and higher. As long as it feels pleasurable to you—as long as you’re feeling better and better—you know what you are doing is uplifting you.

Surrender Again, and Again, and Again

If you find yourself worrying or trying to think your way through the problem, it’s time to surrender again. Your Spirit, always in alignment with the Design for Harmony, knows exactly what to do to bring you to your highest level of well-being, no matter the circumstances or the problems you may have created by allowing ego to lead. When you are aligned with your Spirit, it will tell you the practical steps you need to take in the process of sorting out a problem or moving to a more peaceful situation. Your Spirit is also a dispenser of miracles if you’re sufficiently surrendered and available to receive them.

The solutions your Spirit has for you won’t require engineering by your left brain—your left brain will only be needed to carry out the instructions Spirit gives you. Your left brain won’t be able to come up with the ideas to solve the problems—it would have already done so if it were able. Spirit will provide the ideas and solutions, but you have to be tuned in to receive its messages.

When you worry, plot, plan, and control, you are on the wrong wavelength to receive the perfect guidance of your Spirit. When worry sets in, just turn it around by saying, “I trust you Spirit. I surrender this to you.” How often do you need to surrender? How ever many times it takes. Your frightened ego will try to convince you that relying on your Spirit is impractical, but that’s only because it can’t see high enough to grasp what your Spirit is able to do that it can’t.

Keep affirming your trust in your Spirit. Praise your Spirit for its brilliance and power (this is not for your Spirit’s sake, but for your own!). And to really keep yourself in the zone, go ahead and thank your Spirit with all the enthusiasm of someone who has just been told that all her problems have been solved, because that is the very outcome that is being created when you trust your Spirit and follow its guidance to the abundant life you were designed to live.

Spring Equinox is a three-day cycle of celebration, where we take the wisdom gained from the Fall Equinox (focus period of self-introspection and reflection) and turn this knowledge into creative action. The process of understanding the meaning of our past experiences allows what we’ve learned to regenerate into wisdom, which is reborn within us and enhances who we are. By doing this, we honor the people and experiences who impacted us on our path, and in honoring these things, we make them sacred and of great personal value.

We can not fully understand what we have not experienced. Thus, the journey of life is one of answering the questions, Who Am I and Why Am I Here.  Through the action of applied knowledge and experience, we develop the inner wisdom to answer such questions.

What is most important to reflect upon during this time is that in life, events happen, choices are made, and actions are generated. We cannot change that which has passed, but we can be renewed through the wisdom of these experiences. Life can present us with great tragedy and joy.  During these times, we can bloom with wisdom and insight, which lead us to find new directions, explore new lessons learned and regenerate into further growth.

On Spring Equinox, these carefully planted seeds from the Fall, can now bloom into new life for each us, and we can begin again.

It is with this knowledge, that we can change our future. This is created by refocusing our attention on what we truly want to manifest and then actively creating the right atmosphere and attitude to bring it to fruition. Spring reminds us of our ability to be reborn and this is one example of  the greatest gifts we were given here on earth, which is the energy in nature.

We can connect with nature to assist with our growth and development. Ancient schools taught how to observe the powerful events occuring in nature to connect with the energy here on earth (below) with the energy from the higher planes (above). This act brings forth the balance and growth of the As Above So Below teachings.  A series of rituals were created to assist students in connecting with each powerful and sacred festival of the year.  Some of these rituals have been adjusted for modern life, such as in ancient times, there were pools where students went to purify in the water each evening, rather than showering as we do today.  The Equinox consists of two parts, the outward celebration and the inner rebirth.

Presented here are activities you can do on each of three days of the Equinox, to release the energy within you as well as connect with the energy of the Equinox….

The Eve of the Equinox:

Reflect upon the seeds (thoughts and goals) you planted during the Fall Equinox and New Year. Consider the lessons and experiences of the past six months and decide what is hindering progress with your goals.

Ask yourself — What important seeds of truth need to be revealed this spring, in order for me to truly know myself and step into my power-ful being?

It’s time to awaken from your period of hibernation, inactivity and self-introspection and put these thoughts and plans into action!

To awaken your higher self and activate your growth cycle, begin the Equinox ritual by taking a shower. As the water flows over your body, imagine all negative energy being removed and washed away from you. As you dry off, visualize white light around your body and say out loud, All That Happens, Happens for Good – Divine Energy is working through me now!

Day One of the Equinox:

It’s time for Spring Cleaning. Clean your house and remove clutter. As you clean each room and the items in it, do so with reverence and appreciation for the abundance in your life. Cover your home in loving energy as you clean, picturing you and your loved ones in each room, feeling happy, content, joyful and relaxed. By this evening, you are ready to smudge each room with white sage to purify and cleanse each room. End the day with the shower and ritual from the equinox eve.

Day Two of the Equinox:

This day is what people refer to as “Equinox Day”, It is the day to Celebrate Rebirth, Renewal and Abundance. It is a time to toast to plans of action and growth, ie, “a garden in bloom”!  Celebrate with rituals including creating and sharing Equinox baskets with loved ones and friends.  The day culminates with dinner to celebrate renewal, rebirth and the magic of the seasons and life and all the wonder it brings, along with sharing  dreams being brought into fruition this year.  This is a powerful day to put plans into action.

In ancient times, this was celebrated with an outward and inward celebration:

Exoterically – people celebrated with  egg hunts, (a symbol of the earth and rebirth), by giving and decorating with bunnies, (a universal symbol of fertility for both body – act of creation with birth and mind – turning thoughts into fruition) and by giving baskets, (a symbol of abundance).  A special dinner with family and friends is also common to celebrate the return of Spring and renewal.

Esoterically -  people act on the seeds (goals) that they planted during the Fall Equinox. Now is the time and opportunity to step forward and create oneself anew with the tools of Gratitude, Abundance and Creativity.

Day Three of the Equinox:

May is around the corner, which brings the celebration of the Divine Feminine. This is the time to emerge from Introspection and Self Observation, into Spring Renewal and Focus on Action, Creation and Celebration. The Equinox is a time to focus on a balance of exoteric and esoteric, and introverted and extroverted events.

Suggestions to activate your creative side and bring new perspective and balance include:

Planting flowers in the garden, taking on a new creative project (preferably something new you have not done before), decorating your home; saying thank you to the Universe for the Abundance of OPPORTUNITY in your life, accepting new challenges in order to grow and step closer to your goals, embracing the future; and spending time with people in your life who will encourage you with your dreams and aspirations.

The Spring Equinox is a great time to jump start your goals. Now is the time of Action! It has never made sense with the Julian calendar, that one would create new year resolutions in the dead of winter on January 1st.  Your dreams were planted as seeds of thought in the Fall and now is time to tend to your garden and bring forth beautiful blooms of creativity.

Decide Now what actions you will take immediately and where you wish to be and proceed from there.

Have you read the book, The Two Income Trap: Why Middle-Class Mothers and Fathers Are Going Broke by Elizabeth Warren? Warren, a Harvard law professor, reveals how families lived in the 1970′s, in comparison to how they are living now. The results will shock some and surprise others including the revelation that many believe that they are spending more on luxury items in this decade, whereas the study shows that double income families of today are spending more on necessities such as health care, education and other essential items  The danger of losing it all becomes more apparent as Warren explains that in the past, should the breadwinner fall ill or be laid off from work, the other parent could pick up the slack and help out the family, whereas currently households are reliant on both incomes and still not making ends meet in many cases.

The current economic situation is a reminder to practice introspection and self-observation regarding lifestyle choices as well as evaluating the costs of living expenses.  Elizabeth Warren’s book provides credible and informative facts including the need for universal changes such as the public school system and with credit companies.  In addition, the book offers straight forward talking points providing families with information to consider making financial changes of their own.
