As a wisdom teacher, I share the ancient esoteric teachings of the mystery schools with my students where I have a detailed list of books of required reading that each student is introduced to as they begin their studies.

Recently, I’ve discovered a new book that delighted me with the depth of exploration into gemstones and their connection to the ancient teachings.

The book, Stones of the Seven Rays: The Science of the Seven Facets of the Soul (Inner Traditions/Destiny Books) covers the connection between gemstones and a variety of spiritual paths along with their relationship with the devas. It is perhaps the most comprehensive metaphysical reference guide to gemstones explaining their interaction with the elements and how their geometric shapes structure their power. The book also discusses their uses for healing, magic and protection.  This book is now required reading on my list and I highly recommend it to anyone studying the deeper esoteric teachings or who has a strong interest in working with gemstones on a spiritual level.

The back cover description of the book further explains: Taught solely in secret for millennia, the Science of the Seven Rays was introduced outside of the ancient mystery schools of Western and Hindu tradition by some of the great occultists of the late 19th and early 20th century: H. P. Blavatsky, Manly Hall, C. W. Leadbeater, and Alice Bailey. Based on the soul’s seven-faceted nature, the Seven Ray system underlies metaphysical traditions around the world through its connections with the seven musical notes in the scale, the seven days in the week, the seven chakras, the seven colors of the rainbow, and the seven sacred planets.

Michel Coquet is a scholar of Hinduism, esoteric Buddhism, and Eastern philosophy. An accomplished practitioner and teacher of martial arts, he is the author of nearly 40 books in French on martial arts, esoteric philosophy, theosophy, and religion. Laying out the key principles behind this spiritual science, Coquet explores in his book: Stones of the Seven Rays: The Science of the Seven Facets of the Soul,  the seven sacred gemstones of the Seven Rays–diamond, sapphire, emerald, jasper, topaz, ruby, and amethyst–and shows that not all precious stones have true mystical powers: they must be charged, either naturally or through ritual, with a living deva or angelic presence before they can effect spiritual transformation and physical, mental, and soul healing.

Drawing on Hindu, Jewish, pre-Columbian, and Greco-Roman magical traditions with precious stones as well as their use by great initiates of history–including Hildegard von Bingen, Paracelsus, Cornelius Agrippa, Elias Ashmole, Nicholas Flamel, and the Count de Saint Germain–Coquet examines each sacred gem’s effects on the seven facets of the soul as well as their spiritual and therapeutic uses, the meaning of their colors, their influences on the chakras, and their use in amulets, talismans, and other magical tools. Illuminating techniques of invoking spirits into gemstones and reports of the power to enlarge diamonds at will, stones that produce anesthesia, and the use of gem medicines in India, Coquet reveals that while gems can influence our physical, mental, and spiritual well-being, without daily work toward a gem’s corresponding virtue, even a consecrated stone will have no effect, for the most beautiful gems are within.

In the spiritual realms where the higher self resides, a record of every thought, action, word and deed is recorded for each soul. Referred to as the Akashic Records, these vibrational energy imprints remain attached to the soul through each lifetime. These imprints shape each soul’s destiny, karma and life purpose.

Psychics are able to see these Akashic Records in the manner in which they are attached to each person in their aura and energy fields. The records explain “who you are” and “why you are here” in this lifetime. They define the challenges you are facing, the relationships you engage in and the primary motivations and desires that you are attracted to on the mind, body and spirit levels.

2012 is one of the markers of the evolutionary change we are experiencing as we are moving into the fourth dimension. Our ability to process these lifetimes allow us to shift into the new dimensions of being.

We are not alone in this process. Our spirit guides have been working with us in one of the most importantly evolutionary shifts in our consciousness on the earth plane. When we can can understand what is occurring to us on a body, mind and spirit level as well as learn how to connect and communicate with our spirit guides, we can accelerate the process in a state of grace and well-being.

The New Energy Shift

Friday, April 13, 2012 marks the end of a particularly heavy feeling Mars Retrograde which began on January 23rd, 2012.  When Mars is in retrograde, it’s difficult to initiate new projects and whatever attempts are made to move ahead are usually met with great resistance. It feels like being stuck in the mud while trying to push a boulder uphill, in short, like an impossible task.

Thankfully we’ve reached the end of both the Mars and Mercury retrogrades and will begin to see the energy lift dramatically over the next two months. It’s now time to take the ideas that you’ve had in mind for 2012 and make plans to launch them this year.

With this in mind, the best time to launch new projects this year begins in mid June 2012 and throughout the second half of this year. Use April and May to look over your goals and make plans on how best to launch the new career or business of your dreams as well as to look for a new home if it’s in the plans for this year.

LightWorkers: Heed the Call

We’ve now reached the Second Quarter of 2012, having just celebrated Spring Equinox in March and Easter in April. This marks the time of New Beginnings. The Mercury and Mars Retrogrades are over and we are experiencing a “rebirth” as we usher in the Age of Aquarius.

With this renewed energy, hope will arise in a burst of light and the possibilities of what we can create are limitless. With this potential,we must understand the importance of this time along with the realization of who we are.  In brief…

We are the souls who have chosen to reincarnate at this time and we have come back here to be an instrumental force in the upcoming evolution.

In order to accomplish these mighty goals, it’s time to put forth all of the training that you’ve received and been preparing for over lifetimes. This means…

You are a Light Worker. This means it requires Work to bring in the Light.

In order to assist with the Shift in Energy and Consciousness, there are three things we must do:

1. Face the Dark
This includes the darkness inside each of us. We are beings of duality and it is important to come to terms with this duality and understand that we have the free will choice to make each thought, action and deed as positive and light bearing as possible in every moment. There are times we will stumble and fall. What matters is that we recognize that we will make mistakes. When we make mistakes, we will not let them define us, rather we will get back up and do our best to move forward and become stronger and better from what we have learned.

2. Face Our Fears
We choose to live in love with faith that each experience makes us stronger or we choose to live in fear, hiding from new experiences. The only constant in life is change. To be a lightworker, we cannot shirk back from new experiences regardless of how difficult they feel at times. It is our duty to move forward spreading love, joy and hope in each undertaking. By living in the light, we help ourselves and others around the world.

3. Call Forth the Light

You have been given Two Sacred Gifts at this time, which are tools to use in this mission:

1. Tradition:
You have received Past Life Training as Wisdom Keepers, Shamans and Priestesses that you can call forth into being. This is not your first lifetime here doing the work. As I am seeing in the auric bodies, we are evolving and becoming crystalline bodies of energy. Our auric fields are expanding which will allow us to interface on a greater level with the spiritual planes. With this ability, it becomes easier to access our higher self and recall the knowledge of previous lifetimes. In this lifetime, we are integrating all our of previous lifetimes and merging them into one, becoming a whole being on the mind, body and spirit level.

2. Good Luck and White Light Energy is returning.
Maximize this energy and use it now to your best and highest potential. With the retrogrades lifting, we are now entering the one of the strongest energetic times seen thus far in this century. The time period between June 2012 and December 2012 is incredibly powerful and used wisely this energy can be tapped into creating magnificent works. Don’t waste a minute of this time to co-create whatever you wish to achieve in this lifetime. What you create during this period will have long lasting effects for years to come.

June 2012 will soon be here, take the next two months to plan and prepare for the work that you wish to do as a lightworker and on a personal level to call into being in mid June.  I’ll be writing more here soon about MidSummer and what you can do to prepare and usher in this tremendous powerful light energy. As life these days continues to speed by in what I feel is almost equivalent to the speed of light, it’s important that we take the time to slow down, take a breath and gather our thoughts.  The stressful hustle and bustle of this world can easily put us on edge and cause us to snap and act differently than we might have, had we had enough sleep, proper nutrition and an easier day than the one experienced.

With this in mind, this thought rolled out of me the other day. I printed it out and posted it on my wall and I thought you might enjoy it too, so here it is:

“We are all doing the best we can, as we can, with each day bringing its own set of challenges as we ourselves struggle to grow and be our best, while facing fatigue, emotional stress and other factors. Each of us have a story and are best served when we remember that about each other and respond with a gentle touch and compassion, which is easier to do some days over others.

One other days, it’s just chaos and we have to roll with that too and let our wild child fly and be free.” – Kala Ambrose

Bradford Keeney, Ph.D, is an internationally renowned traditional healer, creative therapist, anthropologist of cultural healing traditions, and improvisational performer. Currently a professor at the University of Louisiana, Keeney has served as a professor, founder, and director of clinical doctoral programs in numerous universities.

As a scholar, his classic text, Aesthetics of Change, was cited by Heinz von Foerster as one of the key texts of cybernetics, the original science of complexity. He is the inventor of recursive frame analysis, a research method that discerns patterns of transformation in conversation and has been called “the Marco Polo of psychology and an anthropologist of the spirit” by Utne Reader. Keeney has spent over a decade traveling the globe living with spiritual teachers and healers and the result of his work is one of the broadest and most intense field studies of healing, chronicled in the critically acclaimed series, Profiles of Healing, an eleven-volume encyclopedia of the world’s healing practices.

In 2009, I interviewed Bradford Keeney to discuss his book, Shaking Medicine, which reintroduces one of the oldest forms of medicine on earth, the ecstatic shaking of the human body. With his many notable accomplishments, including authoring over thirty-six books, what I find most intriguing about Keeney is that he intuitively knows how to touch people at their spiritual core. Gently he reaches in with the luminosity of his voice and as the crescendo of his vocals reaches a fevered pitch, he pulls at the heartstrings until he awakens the soul suggestively whispering that it should open up and pay attention.

According to Keeney, most people’s worst fear is losing control of their circumstances, their emotions, and especially of their bodies. Yet in order to achieve the transcendent state necessary to experience deep healing, control must be surrendered. This led Keeney on a venture quest to examine cultural traditions from around the world where shaking has been used as a form of healing, from the Shakers and Quakers of New England to the shaking medicine of Japan, India, the Caribbean, the Kalahari, who are the world’s oldest culture having survived for over 60,000 years in peace.

The reward from this journey resulted in Keeney being recognized as an ecstatic spiritual teacher and healer by numerous cultures as he became a n/om-kxao (healer) with the Kalahari Bushmen and discovered that “shaking” can bring forth profound therapeutic benefits.

In 2011, I reconnected with Brad to discuss his explorations with the Kalahari Bushmen.  In his book The Bushman Way of Tracking God, Keeney connects spiritual techniques including: activating the non-subtle universal life force, heightening emotional experience, vibratory interaction, direct downloading and absorption of sacred knowledge, extraordinary healing, activation of the ecstatic “pump,” spontaneous ways of rejuvenation, attending spiritual classrooms, exploring an uncommon range of mystical experiences, and experiencing bliss.

Keeney’s latest work regarding these techniques has led him to settle in New Orleans and this is where I spoke with him again in early 2012. I had been filming a documentary in New Orleans exploring the creative vibe and magical power released by the ancient muses, pulling in artists, musicians, writers and bohemians to come and be reborn in New Orleans. Keeney had answered the siren’s call and responded by creating an extra-sensory explosion for the mind, body and spirit called The Mojo Doctors.

He and his partner Hillary Stephenson offer “Mojo Sessions”, weekend long intensives held in the French Quarter of New Orleans where Kenney skillfully blends his spiritual exposure to wisdom teachings with techniques from his book, The Flying Drum: The Mojo Doctor’s Guide to Creating Magic in Your Life to transform small groups of people during each session. Recently I’ve begun appearing on the John Edward Presents Infinite Quest Program on their show called Infinite Quest Live. Dear Kala,
A few months back I was selected to have a reading done by you via InfiniteQuest.com. I wrote everything down so I wouldn’t forget what you told me.  One of the things you said was there was someone in my profession that would offer me a job soon.  The only reason they hadn’t yet was because they didn’t think I was available or would be interested.  In November, a studio owner contacted me via Facebook asking if I had ever been interested in teaching at her studio.  Our schedules finally meshed a couple weeks ago and turns out she didn’t even know I had left my job of seven years (as a director at another  studio) in September and was hoping I would head up a big project at her studio.  The one thing you didn’t say was if I should take it or not so I guess we will see.  LOL Anyway, I thought you would enjoy a validation!  Thanks so much for the reading.  Now…to see how the other predictions turn out! It was another enlightening hour learning from Kala! I am big on crystals, so the portion on how to use crystals to clear your auric field was very helpful! The readings were fascinating, and the interference in the audio on the last one really did seem to me to be caused by energy disturbances – that was cool to see in ‘real time!’ S.F.

In the wisdom teachings of the Divine Feminine, there are certain earth cycles, which open a gateway between the higher planes of existence and the earth plane. These moments of enhanced connection allow us to view the rhythm and timing of the goddess in her form as mother nature. As the traditions of the Goddess and Divine Feminine resurge in the light again, it’s time to celebrate. The powerful life-affirming magic of Spring is around the corner. Should you wish to change something in your life, this is the moment to set that intention and ask for your dream to bloom, grow and rejuvenate.

We are experiencing one of these magical moments this week, marked as the mid-way point of the season of Winter around February 2nd. This celebration is most popularly known by the Celtic reference of Imbolc. Imbolc, a gaelic word, means in-milk, derived from the gaelic pronunciation ‘oimelc’, meaning ewe’s milk.

While Imbolc is the most well known celebration of this holiday, its origins stem from a powerful universal wisdom teaching known as – ‘As Within, So Without’.

During the barren frozen winter days of early February in western Europe, the celebration of Imbolc was a symbol of hope and represented the good things to come. When surveying the landscape (without), everything appeared bleak, and lifeless yet (within) the dairy animals, hints of Spring were returning as the animals began to lactate and milk began to flow again.

There is a Goddess assigned to this quickening and universally she symbolizes the seeds of life planted (within) the earth and within each person and how when nurtured and cared for, they blossom (without) producing the life affirming milk and awakening of life and hope.

In the Celtic celebration, the Goddess is known as Brigid, also spelled as Brighid. Brigid is revered as the Goddess of healing, writing and prosperity. As a solar goddess, she represents the fire and light that burns within each living being and how when cared for, this eternal light creates inner healing, restores vital energy and stirs life within. She is also represented in the phases of the Goddess as the maiden and the bride. Wise women around the world work with this goddess energy, helping others to launch new projects and beginnings, to stimulate powerful healing energies within the body and perform weddings, as this is the most advantageous day of the year to be married.

Brigid is referred to as the bride, which in modern times is recognized in the form of a young woman being joined in matrimony. This is but one derivative of the wisdom teaching and rituals. The Goddess Brigid is recognized as one of the Queens of Heaven who is being transmuted during this time and reborn. The Wise Woman of Winter, who has journeyed deep within herself during the darkest days of winter, is now ready to emerge and be reborn as the Young Maiden. This maiden carries the hope and promise of new life along with the wisdom and discernment of the wise women, giving herself the gift of intuition, healing, abundance and love. She is a bride of the light, participating in her own unification of this energy in a marriage ceremony of the heart and mind.

Here are Seven Sacred Ways to Connect with the Energy of Imbolc and the Goddess:

1. On February 1st through Feb 2nd, light candles and lamps in the home to welcome the return of the Light. Yellow, white and orange candles are the best colors to use. As you light each candle, focus your energy with the flame and ask that the light burn clear and bright, bringing clarity to the home, burning off any residual gloom or negative energy within the home.
   
2. White flowers symbolize the purity within and the promise of blooming to come. Place a beautiful bouquet in the heart area of your home and breathe deeply into the flowers, allowing their essence and fragrance to be experienced by all of your senses.
   
3. Reminiscent of the milk flowing, sharing dairy products is abundant, the most popular choice being milk chocolate. Hot chocolate warms the body and when stirring the chocolate, imbibe the mix with loving thoughts and warmth.
   
4. Place a silk ribbon or piece of fabric on a window sill, often referred to as Brighid’s Mantle. It is said overnight, it will be blessed with the healing, intuitive and abundant energy flowing at this time. Use this fabric to wrap your deck of tarot cards, to wrap herbs in or create a special pouch to hold treasured items.
   
5. Leave an offering outdoors of bread for birds and other small creatures who may be having a difficult time finding sustenance in the barren landscape. While outdoors in the cold, give thanks to the beauty surrounding you. Stand with your feet firmly grounded to the earth and raise your arms in the air, bring the light from above around you and allow it to flow deep within you.
   
6. Gather the seeds that you will be planting in your Spring garden. Hold your hands over the seeds and ask for the energy of the Goddess within to bless the seeds and nurture them. Take a small quartz crystal and charge this crystal with the same intention. When planting these seeds in the spring, plant the quartz crystal into the earth next to the seeds.
   
7. Reflect on the seeds of thought you planted in the Fall within yourself and the goals you are affirming in this new year. Ask for the quickening of the seeds within you, that they may blossom and grow. Take a quartz crystal and charge this crystal with the same intention. Keep this crystal on your desk or in a spot where it will remind you of your goals and intentions.

The Goddess in her many forms, teaches by example through nature. Use this time wisely, as it creates a sacred opportunity to plant new seeds of thought in the mind and heart. In the circle of life, there are adversities (within and without), representing a time of darkness and Winter, which are always overcome through the journey. The return to the light in the Spring, offers the opportunity to be reborn and move forward on the path, having learned from the time of adversity. Offerings of gratitude are given at this time to one’s adversaries, as they represent lessons and growth opportunities in disguise.

Yule, a festival of light with twelve days of feasting and public celebrations, begins at the Winter Solstice, Thursday, December 22nd at 12:30am. Symbolic rituals are observed including the lighting of candles and a Yule log is kept burning throughout the twelve days to symbolize the returning of the light and the Sun after the darkest day of the year on Winter Solstice. In more recent times, the tasty addition to the festivities has been added in the form of a Chocolate Yule log cake.

The origin of this holiday comes from over 2000 years ago, originating in Northern Europe. The holiday began as a pagan tradition known as Yule, which was celebrated for 12 days.  During this time, Scandinavian people celebrated the Norse God Odin, a bearded god who flew through the air on a horse and handed out gifts. The Pagan Romans held a seven-day festival of Saturnalia beginning on December 17th, which included the celebration of the God Mithras, who was born on December 25th. They exchanged gifts, enjoyed feasts and once this festival culminated, the New Year festivities began. Modern day examples of how we celebrate these pagan traditions today include candles in the windows of our home and what we now call Christmas lights, which we hang on a Christmas tree (our modern adaptation of the yule log and evergreen branches that the ancient Europeans brought into their homes).

In the 4th century, Rome changed from a pagan society to a Christian society and the church began to replace and absorb pagan traditions. Since there was already a holiday in place to celebrate the birth of the God Mithras, the decision was made to switch this birthday and dedicate the day as a symbolic birth date for Jesus. The Roman Catholic Church holds a ritualistic midnight mass for this event, which became Christ’s Mass, i.e. Christmas.

Like many pagan traditions under siege in the attempt to be absorbed and overwritten by the church, the campaign was met with mixed success. The European people continued their own traditional pagan celebrations and simply added the new religious connotations into the mix.  Over the centuries, the festivals, feasts, gift giving and celebrations continued including the adoption of medieval carolers who went door to door singing while enjoying a cup of alcoholic punch at each stop.  Over the decades, Yule became the celebration of Christmas.

The festivals continued in this manner until around the 17th century when Protestant reformers decided that Christmas should be banned. Their reasoning was based on the premise that the holidays was built upon pagan traditions, which were then further embellished by the Catholic church with the adopted birthday celebration on December 25th. Both traditions, the pagan revelry and the Catholic traditions, were customs that they wanted no part of and they were able to ban Christmas in England. This only lasted for a few years, but many people who held this protestant belief moved during the 17th century to America, the New World and brought their religious beliefs with them. They were the Puritan settlers who formed the colony of Massachusetts. In 1659, they banned Christmas as a holiday in Massachusetts.  As new settlers including Catholics, Pagans, the Irish, Scottish, Dutch and others with moderate religious beliefs migrated to America establishing colonies in New York, Virginia and other Atlantic states, they brought their Christmas traditions and festivities with them and the celebration of Christmas was restored in the U.S.

How do we celebrate Christmas today? According to the History Channel’s documentary, The Real Story of Christmas, the preservation and evolution is credited to two influential Americans. The first is Clement Moore, who in 1822 wrote Twas the Night Before Christmas, which gave inspiration to new customs for the holiday, based on old world traditions. Moore combined the white bearded Norse God Odin who flew through the air handing out gifts with St. Nicholas, a 4th century Catholic Bishop who was known for gift giving in stockings and the two were then melded with Sinter Klaas, the Dutch version of St. Nicholas. Odin was known as the God of Thunder and was said to have flown on a horse with eight legs. Moore substituted Odin’s eight-legged horse into eight reindeer, which he gave individual names including Donner, which means thunder, and Blitzen, which means lightning.  He also combined old European stories of elves, making Santa Claus a wizard like magical elf.

The second influential figure was Thomas Nast, a famous illustrator who created the images of the donkey and the elephant for the Republican and Democratic parties and created the image of Uncle Sam.  In 1862, Nast took Moore’s poetic descriptions of Santa and drew the illustration of Santa Claus. He changed the image of Santa Claus from a smaller elf into a full size elf man with a white beard. He also created the concept of St. Nick’s naughty or nice list. (A lesser-known fact about St. Nicholas was that the original story of St. Nicholas said that when he visited houses, he was followed by a demon named Krampus who punished bad children). Nast glossed over this story by creating a gentler naughty or nice list. Nast also captivated his audience by capturing the growing sentiment of this time where children were becoming the focus of the family and thus Santa Claus was very attentive to children, bringing them gifts.

From the light filled traditions and festivals of the ancient Europeans, to the migration of Odin into Santa Claus and the bringing in of the evergreens from Northern Europe morphing into the Christmas tree, Christmas as a holiday has continued to evolve. The Industrial Revolution provided the opportunity for a variety of good and products to become mass produced and accessible to consumers and soon after, gift giving for the holiday began in earnest and became the American staple of the holiday that is widely celebrated today.

The holiday season continues to mix old and new, with a rise of neo-paganism bringing a resurgence of old traditions and returning back to the ancient customs and celebrations of Yule. This along with a growing distaste of Black Friday shopping complete with people fighting and trampling others over bargain gifts and thousands of Americans going into debt each year with over the top gift giving, may stimulate an entire new series of traditions and festivities in the 21st century.
