The Calling of the High Priestess

I’ve been in the field of metaphysics for most of my life, spending a good portion in exploration and contemplation of the greater mysteries and the remainder of that time teaching to others.  It’s what I would describe as my calling. Each of us has hidden inside, a “calling” which stays with us throughout our lifetime. We may choose to pursue this calling or we may choose to ignore it, pushing it deep inside trying to forget that it exists, as we succumb to our fears of not measuring up or failing or being rejected by our peers.  We’ve all struggled with this at one point or another in our lifetimes.

During high school, I kept my psychic abilities a secret; for fear that I would be rejected or misunderstood. I was a popular girl in school and did not want to be perceived as odd. I was able to keep my prophetic dreams and psi abilities a secret, until one day in my senior year in high school. I had a dream that I could not walk away from, for it was about one of my best friends and her mother. In the dream, I saw my friend’s mother in her car driving to work. As she was driving, a truck cut her off and she lost control of the car, injuring her in the resulting crash.  Waking from this dream, I struggled with the feeling that this was going to happen this very morning. I knew I could call my friend and ask her to have her mother stay home, thus avoiding this accident, and I also knew that in doing so, I would risk being exposed as someone with peculiar abilities.

After wrestling with this dilemma for a few minutes, including the fact that I had never tried to prove to anyone my track record of how many of my dreams came true, I let my fear go as my love and concern for my friend and her mother far outweighed anything I could imagine happening to me.  I picked up the phone, called my friend and told her my dream. To my surprise, she dismissed me. I pleaded with her, explaining that my dreams had come to pass many times before.  However, my having kept silent all these years, never sharing my experiences, left her little to go on in order to believe my dream.  She said she would see me at school and hung up.  Not giving up without a fight, I called her home again, but this time no one answered.

Later that day, my friend approached me in tears explaining that her father had called the school and that her mother had been in an accident exactly as I had described.  With tears in my eyes, I told her how very sorry I was. She turned to me, and I thought she was going to say that she wished she had warned her mother when I called that morning. Instead her eyes grew cold and she said, “What is wrong with you”? I said, “ I don’t understand, what do you mean”? And she screamed, “Something’s wrong with you, you made this happen!”  I reeled back in shock, stunned that my friend, whom I had been so close with all these years, would think that I could wish for something like this to happen to her mother. Yet she did. Nothing I could say to her at that time would comfort her and nothing would change her mind. She drifted away from me after that experience and our friendship grew to an end.

For many people, an incident like this would pull them into their fear, moving them away from their calling. For me, it hurt me deeply at the time, but it gave me the resolve and motivation to begin a campaign of educating others on metaphysics and psi abilities in the hope that one day others would not fear people with abilities, which were not yet understood in the mainstream world. I’ve since gone on to write, teach and build a school teaching esoteric mysteries as well as creating the talk show, Explore Your Spirit reporting on new discoveries from the science and spiritual arenas. My belief is that when science and spirituality unite and work together, rather than apart, the answers to the greater mysteries will be uncovered and explained.

I’m not the only person to share an interest in both fields of science and spirituality. As Albert Einstein wrote, “Science without religion is lame. Religion without science is blind”.

In the past, we have lived in fear, in one aspect or the other. At one time in history, scientists were killed by those who ruled with religious persecution, for stating facts we now take for granted, such as the fact that the sun does not revolve around the earth, but rather the earth revolves around the sun. During these same times, wise women were called witches and burned to remove their knowledge of the Divine Mysteries.
In return, religion has been shunned by many scientists who choose to forego belief in anything, which they could not view with their own eyes thus dismissing it as superstition. And from there, religions have turned on each other, arguing over who knows best and scientists turned a blind eye to wise women who understood natural ways of healing. Unbelievably to us now, there once was a time in history where doctors shunned other doctors who washed their hands between treating patients. It’s unthinkable to imagine this now, but this was a time where scientists who were working on the theory of microscopic germs, were belittled, because germs could not be viewed with the naked eye, and therefore it was argued that they did not exist. This leads one to wonder, how many other things not viewed by all, such as auras, are readily dismissed by others, who do not have the eyes in which to see…

As Arthur Schopenhauer pointed out, each newly discovered truth has to pass through three stages:
1. First it is ridiculed
2. Then, it is violently opposed
3. Finally, it is accepted as self-evident

In my opinion, Science and Spirituality are describing the same experiences through different thought processes. The goal we must now strive to achieve is to bring things back into balance, with an open mind, rather than through ego and the desire to be right.  As quantum physics blows open more doors of discovery, it becomes more apparent how little we know, yet how connected we all are.
The mystics have been teaching this wisdom for thousands of years and now at this unique point in time, we again are joining together to work together for the good, to create new understanding of this universe we live in and explore uncharted territory.
I hope you’ll join me as we explore the mysteries and create a new future of full of magic and infinite possibilities. Beginning this fall, you’ll begin to hear more from me, as I share the teachings as a High Priestess of the Divine Mysteries. I’m on a mission to educate, entertain and inspire and invite you to join me and take a walk on the moonlight path.
In honor of the ancient ways and those who bravely walked before us, and in joy of the times to come,
*~Kala~*

Esoteric Go To Guide – The Secret Teachings of All Ages

Originally published in 1928, Manly P. Hall’s, The Secret Teachings of All Ages was previously only available in a handsomely bound, large size and expensive edition. Though certainly a collector’s item and treasure for any library, I was happy to discover that Penguin with the Philosophical Research Society has republished the book in a paperback version, making it affordable for the masses.

Hall’s ‘encyclopedia’ covers the esoteric mysteries from around the world, including ancient occult traditions, esoteric mystery schools and temples, religion and philosophy, ancient symbols and myths, and offers a glimpse into a vast library of teachings including Masonic, Hermetic, Qabbalistic and Rosicrusian symbolic philosophy.

From the Druidic mysteries of ancient Britain, to the Gnostics, Mithras, the Eleusinian Mysteries, and Plato’s ponderings, to the Oracle of Delphi, Pythagorus, and Egypt, the 755 page tome answers many questions for the aspiring occult or esoteric student and includes illustrations.

Author Manly P. Hall (1901-1990) was widely regarded as a a sage and teacher, steeped in the wisdom of antiquity and one of the leading esoteric scholars of the twentieth century. In 1934, he founded the Philosophical Research Society in Los Angeles, which continues to publish Hall’s many works and pursue his educational mission.

More information about Manly P. Hall and his work can be found here in this video below:

Human, Know Thyself, Pearls of Wisdom

In the esoteric teachings, hidden meanings are layered into each lesson which are described as “pearls of wisdom”. The pearls are uncovered through the process of peeling back the layers, like an onion. These pearls are designed to wake you up, to make you think and to entice you to spend some time contemplating who you are along with the significance of your life.

I’d like to share a thought to ponder from the teachings with you here each week, that I’ll refer to as Pearl Onions…

Here’s this week’s offering  entitled:

Hu-Man, Know Thyself

The ancients taught about the cyclical nature of our world, referring to the seasons as they turned throughout the year. Like the seasons, we are always in the process of creating and recreating with our active/solar side and our passive/lunar side in order to achieve balance.

As humans, we must balance between periods of contemplation and introspection versus a time to take action and create, not only to nourish ourselves, but others as well.  It is called natural order.

The problems begin when we spend too much time in either of these directions, as it causes us to become out of balance.

If we stay active all of the time, there is no time for the mind, body and spirit to spend in inner contemplation and self examination. In this over-active state, we are unable to digest and process what we have experienced thus far in life.

In the other direction, if we remain too still, spending too much time in thought with no action following, we miss the opportunities provided for us to grow and expand our consciousness as only we can do in the physical world here on the earth plane.  In this state we run the risk of stagnating and entering a state which psychologists describe as analysis paralysis.

In modern life today, we have become experts in knowing how to keep and look busy in order to appear to the outside world that our life is full and to ignore the inner longings of the soul who whispers to us in the quiet of night and asks why we do not feel complete and at peace.  Then, after we run so hard for so long until our energy is depleted, we  turn to stimulants and distractions to keep from thinking about how we feel. The opportunities to do this are more plentiful than ever today with television, the internet, video games, the list goes on and on. As an example, if put to a test, many men can quote sports scores and trivia at great length and many women can quote celebrity gossip with the same intensity. Yet how many can answer the simplest of questions including – Why Don’t I Feel Happy?

The ancients extended this pearl of wisdom to students in the mystery temples to ponder for themselves, by reflecting upon the seasons and going within. I invite you to do the same, take some time this week to check your balance.

You may ask, why open this inner door?

I offer as one example, the following excerpt from my book, 9 Life Altering Lessons: Secrets of the Mystery Schools Unveiled:

“When we activate our consciousness, the all seeing eye of the universe then becomes aware of us and looks back at us! When we transform and become conscious creators, the energy transforms into an ocean of energy, rather than only previously receiving drops of water from the magical universe”.

“In that Moment of Awareness, Everything Changes”.

Buddha’s wife, her life as a single parent…

Welcome to Kala’s Quick Five, where I chat with fascinating authors, artists, teachers and researchers and ask them five questions about their work. Our guest today is Dr. Gabriel Constans, author of the novel, Buddha’s Wife. Gabriel Constans has served the community since 1974 as a grief counselor, chaplain, social worker and massage therapist and is certified in Thought Field Therapy (TFT). He is the co-parent to five children in The States and an extended family at ROP Center for Street Children in Rwanda.

Kala: Gabriel, thousands of books, texts and stories have followed Siddhartha’s path to becoming The Buddha (and his teachings), but little has been written about his wife Yasodhara, how she reacted to his leaving her and their newborn child in the middle of the night, and her desire to find compassion and enlightenment for herself and others. What prompted you to write this book?

Gabriel: Until it was pointed out to me a number of years ago by a friend, I had forgotten that The Buddha had even been married (when he was known as Siddhartha). Even though I’d been a Buddhist for 40 years, none of my teachers had spoken about it, let alone told me about his leaving his wife and only child just days after he was born. I wanted to give Yasodhara (pronounced Ya show da rah) a voice, as well as all the other nuns and women followers.

Kala: How does the novel discuss the portrayal of women in literature and religious life, in the past and in the present?

Gabriel: Buddha’s Wife is told from Yasodhara’s perspective, as she is dying. She speaks about her life as a young girl, when married to Siddhartha, her grief and despair when he left, her life later as a nun and when she is older and leaves the order. A number of facts about Buddha’s reluctance to allow women to become nuns and his belief that “women would be the downfall of the order”are all spoken of in the story as they happened. Many of the issues women faced at that time and place (India around 550 BC) are still being perpetuated in present day, in a number of religious contexts (not just Buddhist).

Kala: Were this story to take place today, do you think Siddhartha would handle things differently?

Gabriel: Perhaps, but there have been many well known men who have been involved in large religious or social movements in the last century who also had little time for their own families or much connection with their children. We (Sacred World Productions and I) are presently in pre-production to make a film based on the book, yet set in a contemporary setting. It will be dealing with this question most intimately.

Kala: What does the novel teach about compassion, inspiration and forgiveness?

Gabriel: Even though the grief and loss experienced by Yasodhara, her son and family (when Siddhartha leaves them in the middle of the night) was great, she eventually finds a way to both acknowledge the pain and reality that it caused, while also finding forgiveness and compassion, not only for Siddhartha, but for people in general, even the woman she believes became involved with her husband later on. She doesn’t forget, but uses her life experience to work on herself and find ways to let go of her anger and resentment.

Kala: In the story, Yasodhara shares her belief that Siddhartha was scared of intimacy, emotion and love. Can you explain the thoughts around this idea to our readers?

Gabriel: I believe some people (historically male) find it difficult to share emotional love and intimacy with another. It is too threatening and raw and reveals the truth of who they are, as opposed to how they perceive themselves or wish to be, that they avoid it altogether or never completely commit. Many men (especially well known) are comfortable being superficially involved with thousands of people (in some role or capacity), but shy away from one to one relationships. In Buddha’s Wife, Yasodhara gives examples of why she believes that may be the case with Siddhartha.

Kala: Thanks for your time Gabriel, appreciate your time on Kala’s Quick Five. For more information about Buddha’s Wife and Gabriel Constans work, visit http://www.gogabriel.com or http://www.buddhaswife.com

Gabriel: Thank you for the excellent questions and the opportunity to share a little about the novel Buddha’s Wife.

Angels amongst us…

“An angel can illuminate the thought and mind of man by strengthening the power of vision”. ~St Thomas Aquinas

My dear friend Paulette Salo is an angel artist. She began painting professionally and exhibiting at art shows in 1964, during which time she has owned two art galleries and exhibited her own artwork, along with other artists. Paulette travels extensively to paint murals for individuals, architects and designers. For the past four years, she has painted angels – her own interpretation of the angels of peace, love, hope, happiness, joy, compassion, protection, and healing. Paulette was intuitively led to paint angels, including personal guardian angels for people.

When Paulette and I first met three years ago, I was immediately struck by her aura, as the energy radiated with white and gold colors and I could see that she was surrounded by light beings who were working with and through her. I enjoyed speaking with her so much that I invited her to be a guest on the Explore Your Spirit show to talk about guardian angels. The interview with Paulette can heard here in the EYS show archives.

Paulette consults and paints angels for people as she travels around the country. She also paints angels at no charge, for children and adults in hospitals with life-threatening illnesses. She’s an incredibly talented artist who also paints wall and full room murals which are so realistic that one has to be careful not to walk right into the wall thinking they are entering another room.

Paulette’s latest project is her series of “Itti-Bitti books”, which are small inspirational books packed full of inspirational and encouraging thoughts, accompanied by her art.  Her first book is Talking to Your Angels the Easy Way, which offers simple, heart felt wisdom on how to just open up and ask your angels to communicate and surround you in your daily life. These pocket-size books make for a great gift for anyone who could use a little encouragement in life, as a reminder that they never walk alone.

For more information about Paulette, her angel art, her murals and even pet portraits, contact her via her website which is: www.paulettesalo.com

A conversation at Petra with the Goddess

Welcome to Kala’s Quick Five, where I chat with fascinating authors, artists, teachers and researchers and ask them five questions about their work. My guest today is Dorothy Atalla, author of – Conversations with the Goddess: Encounter at Petra, Place of Power.

Kala: Dorothy, you experienced a personal communication with a divine feminine presence. How did these conversations begin?

Dorothy: On a cold January day in 1981 I took an afternoon break by listening to music for relaxation. While I lay on my living room carpet I floated on the waves of sound and lost sense of time. I suddenly saw with photographic clarity an image of a woman who radiated scintillating light. She was richly dressed and wore a diadem in the manner of east Indian royals persons. She turned her head and smiled in my direction. I had never had such an experience, and didn’t know who she might be. At the time I didn’t know this vision was going to be a preface to the conversations which would follow later on.

Kala: During these conversations, the topic of Petra in the country of Jordan was mentioned. Why is ancient Petra important to you?

Dorothy: The site of ancient Petra made a big impression on me. It has a wild and surreal beauty. Of all the sites I visited in Jordan, it’s the one where I felt that something remained from the presence of ancient peoples who had lived there. Also I met up with the Goddess there. I just didn’t realize it until seven years later.

Petra is important to all of us. It is presently the primary cosmic power point on earth which is initiating a new planetary cycle, a cycle of 26,000 years. As a power point Petra has ushered in a new reality. The prediction was this: in this new cycle the Divine Feminine will re-emerge and come into prominence, even in our time. Along with the re-emergence of the Divine Feminine a new birth of consciousness has been occurring, an evolutionary leap for humankind and the planet, in which humankind is shifting from an old way of thinking into a new way of thinking, from an old paradigm for living to a new paradigm for living.

Kala: You talk about being empowered through your conversations with the Goddess. How did the experience change you?

Dorothy: What was empowering about the conversations was this: I came to understand that the disempowering story which our culture has given us about our lives as females can, and will be, transcended. When our misperceptions about ourselves as females are cleared away, we can begin to see the powers which are uniquely ours.

One experience which was a shift for me was my perception of what it meant to live in a female body. I think it isn’t uncommon for us women to have a conflicted view of our bodies. I was born into a culture which didn’t see the human body as spiritual, especially the female body. Spirit was a different entity, separate from body, and more important than body. Woman’s body processes were considered to be only biological processes.

The information about women’s natural transformational mysteries which came up in conversation with the Presence changed that. Why ? Because for the first time in my life I learned that the female body has spiritual power. This information presented a different paradigm for how I thought about myself in relation to my body.

In fact, a substantial part of my book is devoted to dialogues about the natural transformational mysteries of woman’s body and psyche, about how they are inextricably intertwined. Especially important is the part of the dialogue which speaks of how our female bodies’ transformations are fundamentally inseparable from our spiritual development. This counteracted what I had learned at a very early age, i.e. that my body was separate from, and even inferior to my mind and spirit. This split in perception came from the cultural mythology in which I grew up.

Catholic theologian Rosemary Ruether said that there exists in our cultural mythology a fundamental dualism in which woman, body, instinct, and nature are equated with the earthly finite aspects of existence. The other half of this equation is man, mind, spirit, and culture. The pole of man/mind/spirit/culture has been perceived as the more important — and also the dominant — pole. Ruether calls this hierarchical dualism.

Kala: What do you believe that the feminine presence is bringing to humanity at this time?

Dorothy: She is bringing her love for all living things. She is bringing in her power, the power of the Divine Feminine, in a way that we have only now begun to explore. To humanity she offers the possibility of co-creation with her, to design an entirely new way of living together.

What she is bringing through my book, Conversations with the Goddess: Encounter at Petra, Place of Power, is a glimpse into ancient peoples’ reverence for the Goddess. She is also bringing a correction of distortions in perception which accumulated around her over many centuries. Her purpose is to clear away whatever stands between her and humanity right now, so that we will have a closer connection with her than we have had.

Kala: Many patriarchal religions have eliminated the Goddess from their belief systems. Do you feel that there will be a return to understanding and embracing the Goddess?

Dorothy: Since I first saw the Great Goddess in 1981 there has been a rising tide of interest in the Divine Feminine. Many books about the Goddess have come out since then. In addition, there is now much information on, and discussion about, the re-emergence of the Divine Feminine and the Goddess on the Internet. For example, there are three sites I know of which have attracted thousands of women. These sites offer programs for women to develop leadership and collaboration that is in alignment with their feminine power: Feminine PowerInspiring Women Summit and BraveHeart Women and there are probably other such virtual gatherings of which I haven’t yet heard.

Also, there is a greater sense of urgency in the air about the welfare of the planet, who is our mother. We have begun to recognize that we must create a new way of life that benefits all life on earth. Life becomes unsustainable unless we change our ways. I prefer to believe that we will return to understanding and embracing the Goddess, although outer signs seem to say otherwise. In crisis lies opportunity.

The history of Advanced Civilizations of Prehistoric America

‘History is a myth men have agreed upon.’ – Napoleon Bonaparte

Many Americans tend to think of North American history as beginning in 1492 with the near discovery of America by Christopher Columbus. (He actually landed in the Bahamas and later Spaniards founded the first settlement in the New World, in St. Augustine, Florida in 1565, good old Plymouth Rock didn’t come around until 55 years later in 1620).

With this thought in mind, I’ve often wondered, can you ‘discover’ a place where people already reside? For example, I’ve never been to Kansas, but I’m pretty sure that if I arrived there tomorrow and claimed it to be discovered by my clan, there would be some serious discussions by the inhabitants of this state.

If we were to believe the notations made in diaries and records kept by the puritanical English settlers who arrived by ship to the east coast, we’d be under the impression that the indigenous people who lived here prior to the discovery of the land by Europeans, were unsophisticated and uncivilized, which then leads to a belief that there is no civilization.  That’s the nicest term one could think to use in comparison to how the indigenous people were maligned and betrayed. History, as Winston Churchill said, is written by the victors. It is always interesting to see in history how what is done to one group of people in an act of force, will then be used by the very same people at a later date when they perform the same act of force and how history will be rewritten and facts eliminated in order to secure political, religious and financial standing. For example, when Caesar marched from Rome to conquer Britain, he embarked on a smear campaign to destroy the credibility of the Druid community by describing the people as uncivilized and holding ritualistic human sacrifices, when in fact he had never witnessed this act nor had a single report to list as evidence.

As scholars and researchers continue to delve into the ancient past, the untold history of the previous settlers of North America continue to haunt the land and their stories beg to be told. An example of this work is the book – Advanced Civilizations of Prehistoric America: The Lost Kingdoms of the Adena, Hopewell, Mississippians and Anasazi, written by Frank Joseph. Frank examines these four ancient cultures and their influences in North America, all of which occurred long before Rome set out to conquer the world.

The book explores the ancient history of North America and covers the research conducted by universities, archeologists and researchers, including many stories which have not found their way into school history books quite yet.

For example, do you remember reading in your history book about:

  • stone pyramids amid smoking iron foundries from the Atlantic seaboard to the Mississippi River
  • a walled city more populous than London at the time, with a pyramid larger than the Great Pyramid of Egypt, called Cahokia  located near present-day St. Louis, Missouri
  • the Hopewell people who settled in what is now called the Ohio Valley and traded extraordinary quantities of luxury goods from the Gulf of Mexico to the Canadian shores of the Great Lakes, in 300 B.C.
  • the Adena people and their ancestral burial grounds with skeletons of the men and women measuring up to 7 feet and the recently discovered Temple of the Moon structure which had been covered up over the years by a lake
  • the Anasazi solar observatory in Casa Rinconcada, New Mexico

Author Joseph serves as editor in chief of Ancient American magazine and has been a guest on Explore Your Spirit. In Advanced Civilizations of Prehistoric America, he shares how each of these civilizations reached great pinnacles of advancement, while also sharing the research on how they vanished from the country. Perhaps as further research continues and natural landscapes change such as melting glaciers in Alaska, more civilizations will be uncovered revealing their haunted past.
